My grandmother named my uncle, Bibb Graves, after him. Even though he is a direct relative I am having trouble linking my family to him because anyone that could remember anything about the Graves side of the family has passed. If anyone has any detailed information on Gov. David Bibb Graves, I would greatly appreciate it if you could contact me directly so we could compare notes and hopefully fill in some holes in my tree . . [email protected] Thank you so much!

They left Bibb County just prior to 1840 and moved to MS. One son, was born in 1819 here in AL (Bibb Co). Two of the children of William POUND/S married there in Bibb County in 1836. Three older children were born in GA. He had a daughter born in 1826 in Bibb Co, and according to the census, two sons we cannot account for or have no information on born in between the son born in 1819 and the dau born in 1826. In 1820 there is a land deed in Jones Co, GA where land was sold belonging to his deceased father (Wm was co-Adm) it states that William POUNDS now resides in "Cahawba County, Alabama". His father was Richard Eli POUNDS. William POUNDS was b in 1785. I hope that helps you somewhat. We are just at a brick wall trying to locate information on any land he may have had that he sold before moving to MS. It is our belief that he was here before AL became a state. One of his sons (my g-g-g-grandfather) William Avery POUNDS was b in GA in Dec of 1815, the next child/son was b here in AL. Thanks for all your help and responses. J Parker
Hello J Parker, When did they leave Bibb? -------Original Message------- From: [email protected] Date: 02/19/07 09:21:17 To: [email protected] Subject: [ALBIBB] Bibb County Tax list Books Morning Listers, In answer to my post regarding the Tax list books, made previously, someone mentioned the year, "1848". Could someone please tell me the years these books start and end? If they start at 1848 they would not be of use to me, nor warrant a trip to the courthouse since my ancestors moved to MS from Bibb Co, just prior to 1840. Thank you for your help and responses. My mother's grandfather was William Landers who I believe was the son of Jane Belvin, daughter to Elkanah and Susan. Jane married a William Landers (Senior?) in the late 1840's and he must have died, because Jane Landers marries Noah Hicks in 1851. I believe that Noah Hicks raised William, who was born in 1849. My mother's father and one of his brother's have middle names of Hicks and Belvin. I have traced and found some info. on Elkanah and Susan on the internet, but have not gotten further back then them. I would be interested in any additional information.

Pat, I am not sure if they are available for transcription. I will ask. I have nothing but time on my hands if that is a possibility. They can do searches and may find the proof in some of the original title? books that are stored in the vault. Using information in one of these books I was able to prove that my gt x 4 grandfather was in Autauga County in 1817, before Alabama became a state. Information about searches, etc., is on the web site. By the way, once you have proof you can submit your paperwork to the Alabama Genealogy Society for inclusion in First Families of Alabama. There is a link to the AGS on the archives site. http://www.archives.state.al.us/ Good luck, Caroline Horton, List Administrator

Hello J, Have you searched the records on the Bibb County Genealogy website? There are several records on there and links to others. Posted are some Bibb County Land Patent Records (or the link) which should be of some help to you Perry Co. also has a website with information and links. Was William Ponds still living to be listed in that 1848 tax list? Stella makes great points about Perry County and the timeline of the establishment of Bibb Co. Ingrid -------Original Message------- From: [email protected] Date: 02/16/07 08:45:56 To: [email protected] Subject: [ALBIBB] Tax lists, Misc missed by LDS Hello listers and fellow researchers, My two cousins and I have been ready to bang our heads against our brick wall searching for records there in Bibb County. We KNOW, our William POUNDS was there, at least by 1816/1817 or so, as one of his children was born there. In 1836, two of his children marry there. David A GOODWIN m Sarah Elenor POUNDS, and Richard E POUNDS m Temperence GOODWIN. (They later all moved to MS, just prior to 1840.) We have sought "proof" of our William POUNDS owning land, and/or selling his land there, but so far all microfilm searches (ordered from LDS to OK local library) have not panned out at all, no luck. At this point we are wanting to know what other resources there in Bibb County we might search to find him listed (those tax lists sound VERY interesting to us). We know they moved to MS, we know land had to be sold prior to the move, but we cannot find any record of it whatsoever. Thank you so much Ingrid for sharing your information on those tax list books on the list with us. Anyone who would be able to tell us what "other" records were also missed by the LDS and not microfilmed would be greatly appreciated. I think that would definately indicate a trip to Bibb County in the future to search for non-microfilmed records at the courthouse for one of us researching these lines. POUNDS, ROBERTS, and GOODWIN, etc. Again, thanks for the "heads up" Ingrid. Ingrid J, keep in mind...when you say he was in Bibb county by 1816...it was still the Mississippi Territory...and then Alabama Territory before it was called Cahawba County...you just might find a record in Perry County, for instance. Depending on where his home was. That happened to me, and some of my folk's land, who lived in Bibb, turned into Chilton Co. Good Luck, Stella
Hello listers and fellow researchers, My two cousins and I have been ready to bang our heads against our brick wall searching for records there in Bibb County. At this point we are wanting to know what other resources there in Bibb County we might search to find him listed (those tax lists sound VERY interesting to us). We know they moved to MS, we know land had to be sold prior to the move, but we cannot find any record of it whatsoever. Is the Bibb County Taxation office at the Annex or Courthouse in Centreville? Maybe I will try to contact them for past tax list. Some office has to have them or know what could have happened to them. If anyone is near and can check on this please let me know.
