My husband's mother was the granddaughter of Joshua A. Thrasher (Lou Thrasher) Her father was, well, "F. Lee" is what it says on his tombstone, I've found 8 spellings for his first name, but he was a half brother to Webb and Monroe. Any data you have would be appreciated, mainly: Who were Lou's maternal family? Her mother was listed as Lula Bell Johnson or Johnston.... Also, info on Adeline Rolen/Roling/Rowlin and her parents, and the Elmores. I have the Thrasher line back to the Immigrants, William and Robert. Did you know they MET the Mayflower?!?!?! They came over a few years before it, on the "Bona Nova". Further research on the Thrashers of England may have to wait for a trip to Bath.... Also, check out our Tribal Pages at http://www1.tribalpages.com/tribe/browse?userid=bcgrote999&view=0&pid=22&rand=5924 This should put you at my husband's tree, follow it up! 2. Marshalls
    3. Hello Bibbers, My cousin went down to the basement of the Annex a little less than two weeks ago. The condition of the basement has not changed since those last pics were posted online. It is pretty bad. Don't get me wrong I appreciate the county letting us come in an research these records at will. There were so many records that were in disarray in the basement that he wasn't able to spend the time to go through the tax list. There are several boxes of old records there and those overly large books. However, there are very legible original marriage records in there. I wonder is it possible to do something similar to the West Blocton Coke Oven Clean Up? These records would help most of us that are searching for Bibb County information. I am trying to find out from the ladies at the Annex if there is a list of some kind of what has been set aside in the Basement". If I get that, I will be glad to forward that information to the list and the Bibb Website. Ingrid "As Long As You Mention My Name.....Wilson, Mason, Clark, Mayberry, Kemp, Mason, Duff......I LIVE!!

    3. Hello Just after we left the Bibb county Williams reunion Saturday, one of the cousins found an old tin type of a young man in a uniform. They now believe it is a confederate uniform. They are trying to scan it into a computer, and figure out who he is. We believe it is either Elias M. Williams or James R. Champion, or maybe James J. Clark. Is there a way to determine anything by the uniform? Because the man is seated in a chair, no hat, no weapon, she hadn't realized he was a soldier. chuck _________________________________________________________________ Rates near 39yr lows! $430K Loan for $1,399/mo - Paying Too Much? 3. Thank you for sending me this info, It has broadened my tree a little. Some Durbin's that I couldn't tie in, I now know who they are. Do you have any Idea on Henry Stephen Durbin's brothers or sisters.Or maybe parents? I think his father was William Durbin, and he may have had a sister named Elizebeth ,1870 census She lived with William. And my great great grandfather may be his brother ,Middleton, I have no proof of these assumption but a lot of coincedence. 3. I agree this is an excellent source of information. I went on there in search of my husbands' grandparents and found both of them. Their names are Maude Martin (b) 6/23/1891 (d)9/26/1959 wife of Moody Martin. Actual first name John. Moody Martin (b)11/28/1884 (d) 1/14/1942. Now I will go "cemetery snooping". Hopefully I can do this via the web site for Bibb and surrounding counties as we live in Texas . This has inspired me I have also found some other people who have been helpful to me as well. 1. Re: [ALBIBB] Bibb County Tax list Books
    2. I do not know if any of this large family ever lived in Jones Co, GA, or not, but the father of this clan (Richard Eli Pounds) lived in Clarke Co, GA, and was the original land owner. He had land holdings in several places, he was murdered by a happenstance of "mistaken identity" and left a number of young children, our William was the oldest (b 1785) and thus the co-adm of the estate with his mother. Richard Eli Pounds was murdered in the very early 1800s. It took many years to settle the estate, Richard Eli Pounds died young and unexpectedly, and did not as yet have a will. This estate settlement, as well as guardianship of the younger children rocked on until the youngest was of age and/or married. Since William Pounds was co-Adm, he was involved with the land sale in Jones Co, GA, even though he had later moved to AL. Wm and his family (married children as well) moved to Chickasaw and old Choctaw Co, MS, from Bibb Co, AL where they had settled. Many members of this large Pounds family moved to AL. William Pounds and his children all moved just prior to 1840 to MS. Old Choctaw Co (became Sumner and then finally Webster Co, MS) was divided along with portions of Chickasw when Calhoun Co, MS was formed in 1852 and some of the family ended up being in all three of those counties.......even though they never "physically" moved. 1. Re: [ALBIBB] Ancestry of Gov. David Bibb Graves
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Bibb, Graves Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.alabama.counties.bibb/3721.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Below are some links about David Bibb Graves which mention his parents, a little about his early life, and about his time as governor of Alabama. What little I found using WorldConnect was disappointing and in some cases wrong, so I would advise that you perform the research yourself using census data, marriage information, etc. Graves was born in Hope Hull [not Hope Hill as some indicate], Montgomery County, Alabama, the son of David and Mattie Bibb Graves and a descendant of Alabama's first governor William Wyatt Bibb. Graves' father died when he was one-year old, and he was reared first by his paternal grandfather on an Alabama farm and then by an uncle in Texas. http://www.gravesfa.org/notable.html#Bibb Graves, David Bibb (1873-1942) - also known as Bibb Graves - of Alabama. Born in Hope Hull, Montgomery County, Ala., April 1, 1873. Cousin of William Wyatt Bibb and Thomas Bibb; married to Dixie Bibb Graves [Her maiden name was Dixie Bibb]. Democrat. Colonel in the U.S. Army during World War I; Governor of Alabama, 1927-31, 1935-39; delegate to Democratic National Convention from Alabama, 1936. Christian. Died in Sarasota, Sarasota County, Fla., March 14, 1942. Interment at Greenwood Cemetery, Montgomery, Ala. 1. [ALBIBB] Ancestry databases

    3. >From another mail list. I haven't tried this but I do subscribe to Ancestry.com and was not aware of the following: Caroline H. The best kept secret on ancestry.com is found by going to the 'Search' tab, then accessing the 'Card Catalog'... At 'Database Title', type one word, such as Maryland. Every book that they have scanned that has the word Maryland in the title will show up. I did this for the word Baltimore and was presented with 46 books that they have scanned and on their database!!! They call these 'online databases', when in fact they really are books that have been scanned and put onto their database. Remember to put just the one word on the database title, then hit the 'Search' button. Don't put in any of the keywords or other options. It will limit the results that you'll get. It's the best kept secret in genealogy! Also, Ancestry.com is kind enough to donate full blown access to all public libraries and FHL's in your local area. My irritations with their company, and aggressive marketing dissolved when I learned that they actually donate this to these public facilities vs. those places paying for access to these resources. I have a new respect for a company that is so generous to do so. Needless to say, I don't make use of that free access and gladly pay now for full access to ancestry.com... I'm happy to pay for their hard work. I know that my annual fee (which in my mind is quite a deal in consideration of the records you get access to) is helping pay for the company to be able to afford to donate their full blown resources to the public libraries and FHL's... It's quite kind of them and I'm happy to pay to have it in my home at a very nominal fee. It's a lifesaver for me now. I know that my annual fee is helping others have access to it when they otherwise wouldn't be able to afford it, and now they can get access to it because of the generosity of a corporation. Seldom done in corporate America today!

I have a couple of pictures of them. Elkanna Belvin and Sus Phipps were the parents of Jane who married William Landers and then Noah B. Hicks. I have tons of things on the Hicks family, some on the Phipps and others. The daughter of Noah B. Hicks and Jane was my great grandmother.
