Prattville was never in Bibb County. It is named for Daniel Pratt, as is Pratt City in Birmingham. He was Alabama's first industrialist. > > From: "Marshalls" <[email protected]> > > Date: 2007/03/19 Mon PM 02:31:36 EST > > To: <[email protected]> > > Subject: [ALBIBB] Prattville > > > > Hello Listers, > > Can anyone tell me if Prattville was ever in Bibb County or is it part of > > Bibb now. > > > > Thanks > > Ingrid > > As Long As You Mention My Name, I Live....Mayberry, Wilson, Mason, Clark, > > Duff, Kemp... > > Ingrid > > > > ------------------------------- > > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to ALBIBB- [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message > > > > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to ALBIBB- [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message > > > -- **************** John K. Ingrid, Not saying this is what happened, but it could have been they both lived away from their parents and obtained the license where they lived and worked. They could then have married where they grew or one of them grew up and where his/her/their parnet(s) lived. The popular think now days is to go to the beach here or some resort area and get married, have the honeymoon there and then return home. I don't think you have to marry in the county in which you purchase the marriage license. Hello all I have been emailed the reversed copy of a tintype of a confederate soldier! He is certainly one of 4 of my G.G. grandfathers from Bibb county. So he must be either James Robert Champion, James J. Clark, Elias M.Williams, or the unknown Hester. Anyone intrested can email me. chuck _________________________________________________________________ Exercise your brain! Joyce, you can go to the Bibb Co. web site and look under MILITARY. You'll find a transcription of the widow's pension application by Elizabeth Redd Smith, widow of Andrew Jackson Smith who died during the Civil War. You can also go to the Bibb Co. board at RootsWeb and run a search for REDD. You'll find a transcription of a deed from Josiah Redd to his daughter Elizabeth REDD SMITH. Eli Smith was a brother of Andrew Jackson Smith. Both were sons of Archibald B. Smith and Sarah Reach. You'll find some information on the REACH family on the Bibb Co. web site. The Sarah Smith listed in the household of Eli Smith on the census was the daughter of Eli and his wife Nancy REDD REACH. Sarah Jane Smith married Early HUBBARD in 1874. You'll find Elizabeth Redd Smith and her children (Archie, Jackson, James, and Sallie) listed on the 1870 census in the household of Josiah REDD (Bibb Co., Kingdom Beat, Scottsville P.O., p. 227B). On the 1880 census Elizabeth SMITH is listed as head of ! household (Scottsville, Bibb Co, p. 249b). Children listed were Archer and Sarah E. The courthouse is normally closed on State and Federal Holidays. I think the hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. There is a metal box which holds index cards on top of some filing cabinets in the same room where you'll find marriage records. The box contains index cards with information on each card as to the book and page number where you'll find records concerning various estate settlements. Before the Will Book series was started wills were recorded in the some of the older books (Orphans Court Records, Administrator Records, and Minutes Books). Some of the books have an index and some do not. Years ago one of the clerks went through the books and created the card index. Sometimes you can get lucky and find the loose papers concerning an estate in the basement of the annex. The papers were organized and placed in folders a few years ago by some volunteers in preparation for microfilming. The records have been microfilmed. You can check the Family History Library (LDS) catalog to see if the film is available. Thanks Joni, I think that churches are considered non for profit and do not have to keep those types of records. I am at my wits end with this problem.
