Luke's on John W. Rea was born in 1822. In my notes I see that Luke did have a brother named John. His father was William REA of Greenville, SC. If you search the trees at rootsweb there was some pretty detailed information about William and his probate information. I am not sure if this is "your" John though . . .below if from my notes: Will of William Rea, of Greenville District, SC, made Jun 23,1827, probated Aug 27, 1827 In his will William names wife, Rebecca;sons, Luke, John, Thomas and William Rea; daughters, Patsey and CharlesSawyers, Rebecca and Allen McDonald, Nancy and James Cockrum. Exec:Friends Micajah Berry and Tully Bolling. Wit: Sims Smith, Mulkey L. Smithand James Thomson. Dec 12, 1849, Sale of the property of the estate ofWilliam Rea, dec'd. Sep 23, 1850, Petition of Micajah Berry filed forsettlement of William Rea's estate. Heirs listed were: Out of state arethe heirs of Luke Rea dec'd., heirs of Thomas Rea dec'd., heirs of JohnRea dec'd., William Rea, Charles and Patsey Sawyers, Allen and RebeccaMcDonald, James and Nancy Cockrum. In this state are John Rea, Sowurd(?) Rea, Tully and Polly Holliday,William and Elizabeth Bagwell, John and Tabitha Autrey. I am researching my great great grandfather John W. Rea, and have not been able to find him before 1834 when he married Rachel McWilliams in Columbus Miss. Lowndes County. Unverified information says he was born in South Carolina around 1809. I believe the Rea family moved to Alabama from South Carolina in the early 1800s-maybe John's parents stayed in Alabama, but he probably moved to the Lowndes County area. The Alabama Notes gives information on Luke Rea's will, naming his wife Martha and John W. Rea as executors. John W. Rea is also listed as one of Luke's sons. I am wondering if this is the John W. Rea I am looking for. Any information on John W. Rea and/or the Luke Rea family would be most helpful. This will is located in Bibb County Administrator's Record D (1830-1838). I would like to find someone in Bibb County who will transcribe the will for me. John W. Rea died in Jackson Mississippi in 1853. His widow and 6 children moved to Itawamba County Mississippi the following year. She never remarried and died in Osage Texas in 1881. Thank you for responding. I look forward to hearing from you. Hello Melinda: Yes, I was referring to the Luke Rea family, but I don't know if I connect or not. Hello Bibb List, Does anyone know who the caretaker or overseer of Coopers Cemetery in Bibb County is? I am still trying my best to find out who knows who is buried in that cemetery. I have had no luck in this matter. Supposedly Lee and Rollins funeral home and Miller were the funerals homes in the 1940's that funeralized African Americans in Bibb County. The city has information on burials at Centreville Cemetery but not at the adjoined Coopers. ANY help with this would be greatly appreciated. Based on the spelling REA - would you be referring to Luke REA and his descendants? A lot of the REA descendants in this line are spread across Bibb and Chilton today (not to mention Louisiana and parts beyond). If this is your line, how do you connect? My line is through Luke's son Charles Goodwin REA/RAY. IRMA, I AM ONE OF GIDEON'S GGR-GRANDDAUGHTERS. I LIVE IN ARKANASAS AND HAVE DONE MUCH RESEARCH ON THE WOODRUFF'S AND BOBO'S. GIDEON DID MARRY A PHILADELPHIA BOBO, DTR. OF LEVINGTON BOBO. THE BOBO NAME CHANGED OVER TIME FROM ITS ORIGINAL SPELLING-A FRENCH (HUHGENET(?) FAMILY. MY GR-GRANDFATHER WAS AMOS PARKER WOODRUFF WHO MARRIED FRANCIS D. HASTINGS. SHE DIED BEFORE HE DID. THERE IS ANOTHER AMOS P. WOODRUFF (A COUSIN TO MY GT.GRANDFATHER AMOS). THIS PATICULAR AMOS WAS MARRIED TO A LAVINA BOBO ALSO. MANY BELIEVED MY GR-GRANDFATHER AMOS TO HAVE DIED IN THE EARLY1890'S. HOWEVER, I FOUND A MARRIAGE LICENSE TO A JENETTE ADKINS IN 1899 AND HIS SON AMOS PARKER WOODRUFF, JR. WAS BORN IN JULY, 1901. AMOS DIED IN APR. 1901 BUT HAVE YET TO FIND WHERE HE WAS BURIED, BUT HOPEFULLY WILL SOME DAY IT SOMEDAY. IF YOU WOULD LIKE MORE INFO ON THIS LINE OF PEOPLE PLEASE LET ME KNOW. Have a very blessed day, Jil WOODRUFF [email protected] _________________________________________________________________ News, entertainment and everything you care about at Live.com. I know absolutely nothing about the Clarks and have tried and tried to "link" with someone that could help. I'm a Kyzer descendant. My greatgrandpa was a brother of Mary Kyzer Clark. A cousin accidentally found Samuel & Mary's graves over in Cottondale. Maybe we can eventually help each other.
