    1. Re: [ALBIBB] ALBIBB Digest, Vol 3, Issue 45
    2. Ingrid, In viewing the 1860 census for James Beat, Bibb Co., Al., one might surmise that the DUFF Quarters/Settlement was named after the long established (pre-1820) and considerably wealthy for the place and time Walter C. DUFF (1788 Va.). That one page on which he was enumerated alone represents no less than $62,000. in real estate values and no less than $146,000. in personal property values; of which W. C. DUFF contributed $30,000. in real estate value and $60,000. personal property value. The land values in James Beat overall suggests after Emancipation there would have been a great need for experienced labor and those folks required housing. Per a submittal in the Bibb Co. Heritage Book, John CLARK on October 12, 1899 purchased 90 acres of land from Newton H. Thompson (wife Martha J.) for $325. "which is still owned by the family" and references Deed Book 4. John CLARK reportedly died that year of appendicitis and is stated as having been buried at Mt. Tabor Church. John's wives Amanda & Zilpha (sisters - nee Owens) reportedly died between 1910-1920. The death of Amanda (Owens) Clark (1910-1920 --- her picture is in the book) should assist in dating your map as I noted the "Heirs of Amanda Clark" tract on it ... if the land was held as a family group as suggested the map could have been as late as 1940+ as suggested by my earlier note off-list. 1. [ALBIBB] HARBIN SURNAME - C1830
    2. Joan Marie
    3. Greetings, Now that the list has come alive again, perhaps someone will help me with a longstandng brick wall! I have two William HARBINS and a Thomas HARBIN on the 1830 census that I am getting nowhere with. The Williams are both 60-70, which puzzles me as to who they are; the Thomas is younger and I imagine is a son of one of them. I found a couple references to one of the Williams in a book, too, and know he lived in Centreville. Are there any cemetery or church records for that period which include the HARBIN surname? Any help would be appreciated as I am not finding anything that I can use in the LDS film catalog. Thanks much. Joan Marie in Oregon

    1. [ALBIBB] The Heritage of Bibb Co., AL or other Bibb Co., books - lookup?
    2. Growintree's Genealogy
    3. Does anyone have access to the book "The Heritage of Bibb Co., AL" or any books on Bibb Co., AL? I am looking for a reference to Asa T. Elliott being a postmaster. Years ago, I thought I read that he was one in my local genealogy library. I've since moved out of state and have lost the reference. And I can't find "The Heritage of Bibb Co., AL" in the Family History Center's catalog to order. I would appreciate it if anyone could help me out. Thanks, Felicia
