Hello, all Bibb Co. descendants. (I am a caucasian person). I have just completed reading a condensation of Alex Haley's book, 'Queen', which is a fascinating telling of the time of the War Between the States, and the following years, told from the view-point of a mixed-race woman of Caucasian and Negro parentage. >From all I know (and that is not much) there were many such persons who were brought into the world and had to live the life of a slave, because they were of mixed race. Our nation has some very sad history, from those times, but I hope that we will (or may have come to) see a time in which many of those difficult historical facts will be improved upon, or at least, cleared away, by our more recent national behavior. Sorry to have started preaching!! Now, to the reason for my message. I have ancestors who lived in Bibb Co., in the early days of the history of the state of Alabama, and I intend to learn more about them, and the trials of their lives, before, during and after the War Between the States. That is a title for that war which is usually used by people who live in the northern states, but I agree with that name of the war, because it was not a thing with any 'civil' features about it, whatsoever. My families in Bibb (and also Perry) were DUKE, FONDREN, MOORE, WOOLLEY, MCLAUGHLIN, PERKINS, SANDERS, TUBB(S) and perhaps, some others. Robert DUKE was b. ca. 1780, in Camden District of South Carolina, and his wife was Ann KINSLER, b. ca. 1780, also from SC. They were married at about the turn of the 19th century, in SC, and their children were James, Jeremiah K., and a daughter whose name may have also been Ann. The entire family moved to Perry Co. in ca. 1730, and both Robert and his son, James, bought land in Perry Co, shortly after they arrived. James had been married for a short time, and brought two or three young children with him, as well as his wife, Judith Elizabeth WILSON. This couple had eleven children in all, the rest of which were born in Alabama. Jeremiah, my ancestor, married Caroline WOOLLEY in 1836, and they had two children before he died in 1841. These children were (first born) Rachel Ann DUKE and her brother, Lovick Sherrod DUKE. Some of this info is also available (from previous queries by me) in the archives of the two counties, and some very fine 'students' of the area have helped me with much of this info, which I very much appreciate. Lovick was b. July 10, 1840, and the life he, his sister and his mother (who re-married) led during his youth is not very well documented, since no one was 'taking notes' at the time. We all find this to be true, so this is not new news!!!!!!! Fast forward to age 20, and Lovick is married to C. Adeline FONDREN, in Bibb Co. in November, 1860. He becomes a member of the Alabama 51st Partisan Mounted Rangers, comes home and returns to the war at various times, and by 1865, when the war was over, there were three children, and after that time, five more were born. In 1879, he is declared a bankrupt farmer, and dis-possessed of his farm land in the area. After this occurred, he took his entire family, and three other persons and migrated to Coryell Co., Texas, where they were all counted in the 1880 census. I hope to learn the following information items about this entire family. Birth-dates for Robert, his wife, Ann, the d.o.b. of C. Adeline FONDREN, that of Rachel Ann DUKE, the date of her marriage to James C. PERKINS, the d.o.b. of Caroline WOOLLEY, the d.o.d. of Jeremiah K., and the location of the land which was lost, due to the bankruptcy court action. This is a tall order. Anyone who can help with any of these needed data are most appreciated!! Thanks for listening. I have also received the copy I ordered. I have one suggestion. Please mail the books in a shipping box instead of a manila envelope. The postal employees must like to throw the packages, because my hard copy arrived with all 4 corners bent. Hi, Received my copy of this book and it is wonderful. For Nancy, there are 121 references to the WALLACE family in the index. This book is still available. I ordered mine from Randolph School Alumni, P. O. Box 155, Randolph, AL 36792. I paid $39.00 for the hardcover copy. Irma J. Roy
Nancy, By the way, there are 45 entries for WALLACE in the index to THE HERITAGE OF BIBB COUNTY, ALABAMA, besides the 5 pages. Irma J. Roy At 12:20 PM 2/20/2008, you wrote: >No, I haven't seen it. Please email photo if you can to edshimek@ cox.net. Also to Deb Haines so she can add it to the website if there is room. Thank you!! I collect old family photos and the more info about them the better. It's the best part of the internet for me!!! I just love putting faces and clothes etc. to names. I wish that we could add these photos to the internet websites that have the trees, etc. ----- Original Message ----- From: <lparks3@bellsouth.net> To: <albibb@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, February 19, 2008 11:38 PM Subject: Re: [ALBIBB] John Leeth Wallace >I have a photo of Henry Wallace that married Kandis Fancher(my >grandfather's aunt.)
