    1. [ALBIBB] Old Bibb County Jail
    2. caroline
    3. The following is from "Alabama Heritage" magazine, Fall '07: The old Bibb County jail in Centreville is an ailing landmark looking for a cure. After the county constructed a new facility the old jail was abandoned and is without a new tenant. Storm damage, deferred maintenance and neglect have taken a great toll on the building. Demolition was considered but the old jail was spared when demolition bids came in too high. Mississippi architect A.S. Hull designed the old Bibb County jail in 1910. Embellished with ornate architectural elements, the old jail visually complements the nearby courthouse, a grand renaissance revival building also designed by Hull. The Better Hometown Group, a city coalition, is trying to purchase the old jail in hopes of converting it to a county museum. However, the city is willing to consider other plans that may adapt the building to a new use.

Author: Sidetrackedresearcher Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.alabama.counties.bibb/3771.3.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I found some unconfirmed information from unknown source. Sources listed are 1800 Kershaw Dist., SC Cen; DAR Patriot Index; Our Coker Kin (not always reliable); St. Stephen's Land Office Records, Alabama; 1830 Washington Co, AL cen; Goodspeed Ms Hist. & Biog. Says that Thomas Coker died in 1811 in Kershaw Dist., Darlington Co. SC and that his wife was named Margaret. Children listed are Jared, Littleton, Dempsey, Seaborn, James W., Peyton, Gerard (the same as Jared I think) and 3 females. So you can try and check out some of these sources and let us know what you find. Best, Beth Gay Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. Caroline, I'm not sure why the bouncing topic has come up but I do notice that this: albibb-bounces@rootsweb.com; on behalf of; caroline [carolineh@knology.net] is how my mail program (Outlook) displays incoming 'E'mails from you. I don't know why nor do I need to :~) I get the message sent and that's what matters to me. Ric West God is an Infinite Ocean of Light and Love.   As a Spark of that Light Help Share the Love.

    1. [ALBIBB] Bouncing posts
    2. caroline
    3. Question My mailing list emails are bouncing, what does that mean? Answer When the computer attempts to deliver an email to you and it cannot, the email is returned to the sender. This is called a bounce. There are several reasons for an email to bounce. It could be a bad address, a full mailbox, your ISP, or Internet problems. Many of these problems are temporary and will fix themselves. If it continues, contact your ISP (Internet Service Provider). After as few as 3 bounces, your email address will be automatically unsubscribed from the mailing lists. (This is necessary because bouncing mail can wreak havoc on a server). If you have stopped receiving mailings from your list(s), it is generally due to you bouncing off the list. You can re-subscribe to the list, but if you bounce off again, you will need to talk to your ISP about allowing delivery of your mail.

    1. [ALBIBB] Why is my post not posted?
    2. caroline
    3. Question: I sent a post to a mailing list. Why is it not posted on the list? Answer: You might have sent it to the wrong list or the wrong address. Remember that the "-request" address for the list is for computer commands and is not the address for posts to the list. Check the header of a piece of list mail to see the correct name and address for the list. It should be in this form: LISTNAME@rootsweb.com. Are you still getting the list mail? If not, you might have been unsubscribed. Use Password Central or My Account to see what lists you are subscribed to. If you are still getting the list mail, but your post did not appear on it, then you might have a problem with the subject line of your post or with your email address. Sometimes if you leave the subject line blank, the computer will take it as a misdirected subscribe or unsubscribe request and reject the post by forwarding it to the list administrator instead of the list. Also the post must be in plain text only. No HTML or attachments. You must post to a list using your exact email address that you used when you subscribed. Check a piece of list mail and see what address the computer used to send you the list mail and compare it to the address you are now using as your return (reply to) address. They must be EXACTLY the same. Any additional characters or words or even an extra space and the computer will not recognize you. If you have more than one address and wish to post from both, contact your list administrator to request the second address be placed on the accept list. Addresses on this list will be able to post to a list, but will not be sent the list mail. Mailman, the mailing list software we use, has a "not me too" setting that stops you from getting copies of your own post. Check with the list admin to make sure that is not checked. Also check the list archives to see if the post went out to the list. The archive is subscribed to the list like any other user. If the post went out, it will appear there. This usually happens in minutes but if the servers are bogged down, it could take a day or more. If the post is there, and you did not receive it, check your spam filters and with your ISP to see if they are blocking your list mail. To contact the List Administrator of any RootsWeb list, send an email to: LISTNAME-admin@rootsweb.com Substitute the list's full name for LISTNAME. For example, if you were writing to the FAKENAME-L List Administrator, the address would be FAKENAME-admin@rootsweb.com

    1. [ALBIBB] Questions and answers to ALBIBB posting problems
    2. caroline
    3. In the last few days I've noticed problems and have received questions about mail being "bounced", not being able to use the "gateway" for posting, use of passwords, etc. Lots of changes have come about since many of us starting using a mail list in the "early days" of computer genealogy. One change, effective 2-28-08, explains the reason for confirmation that someone has subscribed and states in part . . . " SUBSCRIPTION CONFIRMATION does require a little additional work on the part of our members but it is a large step forward in making the lists less susceptible to spammers." I have copied and pasted information on 2 subjects from rootsweb HELP which I am sending in separate posts - BOUNCING and POSTINGS NOT POSTED. When you read the posting regarding "BOUNCES" you will find that the standard maximum is set at 3. I increased the limit for ALBIBB to 5 at least two years ago. Please take time to go to the HELP SECTION and read *all* the questions and answers. Even if you have been a member of mail lists for years you will find that what "was" is often changed and something different has taken place. Be informed in order to become a better genealogist, receive the information you are seeking and help others receive answers to their questions. The HELP "button" is on the top far right on the home page of rootsweb: www.rootsweb.com Please ask HELP before asking me - thanks for all the reading ~ Caroline Horton, List Administrator

I had been researching the BUTLER family connected to my CHERRY's and in an equity case, Sarah, the youngest daughter, was listed as the wife of Thomas Coker. This was in Edgefield , SC. I am still interested in any information you have on Thomas and Sarah... and any BUTLER's and CHERRY's that might show in any records created by or about them.
