    3. To Ric & All Bibb County Researchers: Absolutely. The Bibb County website remains a part of ALGenWeb & USGenWeb. Both logos will still fly very proudly on the county. This was a very difficult decision for me to make. I consulted with both Caroline and Jacque before making it. I felt it was in the best interest of the website to remove it from Rootsweb to a location where I could protect your files and images from commercial banners and being transplanted to a commercial website next week. The USGenWeb project will continue to provide free access to genealogy. If you have any questions regarding your files or images, please email me privately. Now let's forget about this subject on the list and continue researching our ancestors!! I enjoy seeing everyone exchanging information and helping each other! :) Keep smiling and hunting for ancestors!! 3. Death records: I believe this kind lady will look up an AL death certificate for a small fee: Susette Cook http://alabamadeath.tripod.com Alabama deaths 1908-1959. For your pre 1908 death, write the clerk of the probate court of Bibb Co. and ask for testate and/or intestate record. Testate-with a will (can narrow date of death between the signed date and the recorded date) Intestate-died without a will. Final settlement of the estate will list all the heirs. Again, there should be a date you can use for at least an approx. date of death. Or http://www.alapubhealth.org for AL dept. of Public health, Office of Vital records. The statewide keeping of birth and death records didn't start until 1908 in Alabama. Also, www.vitalrec.com The University of AL-Tuscaloosa and Samford U. has copies of the Centreville Press. You'll have to contact them to see how far back they go. 3. Brierfield State Park now has cabins for rent. You can go to their website: http://www.brierfieldironworks.com/ It has photos of each cabin and the rate. The Windwood Inn isn't the Hilton, but it was comfortable and clean. The Twix 'n Tween restaurant is a good place to eat. If you're not from the South, be sure to designate sweet or unsweet tea when ordering. You can stand a spoon up in the sweet tea (I'm from Texas). Please don't forget these research locations while looking for your Alabama ancestors: 1. Alabama State Archives, 624 Washington Ave.,Montgomery, AL 36130 http://www.archives.state.al.us/aha/aha/html 2. Samford University, Special Collections, 800 Lakeshore Drive, Birmingham, AL 35229 (Church records, denominational newspapers, and other genealogical materials) 3. University of Alabama-Tuscaloosa, William S. Hoole Special Collections Library. They have Pauline Gandrud's working papers which have been arranged in surnames folders. Many Bibb county folk are included. Do a google search or call. They might be kind enough to look to see if your surname(s) mentioned in Her collection. They have other "stuff" (manuscript collections) as well. 4. The Brent-Centreville Public Library for their family files, etc. 5. While in Birmingham, the genealogy section of the Birmingham Public Library. They had some original church books (Old Cahaba, Dallas County), and may have other original documents in their Tutweiler Collection (I think this has been renamed?). You asked about slabs at cemetery. Why not contact the funeral home, Rockco's Funeral Home, 805 Birmingham Rd., Centreville, 35042, (205) 926-4876 or 1-800-413-8764 and ask for the name of the oldest monument company where you're looking. Don't forget funeral home records. You want the ledger sheets of the deceased's funeral. Many times these will include information that does not appear on a death certificate-physical description, obit, religious affiliation, organizational affiliation (Masonic, etc.), pallbearers, nearest relative(s). Can someone please make me suggestions. Does anyone know how much the copies are at the Annex? Does anyone know who laid the slabs in the local cemeteries? Can't get a death date for my great grandfather, Moley Wilson, so I am reaching for anything to help me narrow my search. He died in Brent and was buried in Coopers Cemetery between 1942 and 1945. I have not been able to find any kind of death record for him. Also having trouble reaching anyone at Mt. Ebel where his funeral was held. I would think and hope that the church had some kind of records for those occasions. Are the Bibb County birth and death records that the LDS copied searchable online yet? Did they leave copies of what they copied with the local library? Lastly, is there a index to the books and records in the genealogy room at the local Centreville/Brent Library? 3. No, LDS digitized records are not online as yet. I understand a notice to LDS family history directors (in Houston,TX) has been sent for training. In other words, hopefully by the end of the year. You can still order/rent microfilm of Bibb County records from your local LDS (Morman) family history library. Remember, the LDS do not, and did not film every county record. 3. Ingrid, I too have stayed at the Windwood Inn (as a middle aged lady by herself on a research trip). Have a safe fun trip to Alabama! 3. Dear Ingrid, Usually I stay at the windwood inn, they are the closest to the courthouse. And as far as copies at the annex.. bring a digital camera, and use it in the flower mode, and you will not have to make copies, and the digital picture comes out so much better than a copy. As far as finding your g grandfathers exact dates, right next door to the annex is the centerville newspaper, and they have all the back issues starting in 1881 that you can go through if you are careful with them, there are a few years in the 1920's that are missing, but all of the 1940's are there and you can easily find a death notice in there. And speaking from experiance, that is the quickest way to locate his exact date of death. the genealogy room in the centerville library really does not have an index, but if you set aside a day you can search through all their records located there in that corner. Jerry Pow is the Judge at the Probate Annex and it REALLY super sweet, and will help you in locating where certain docs are held... we were there taking digital photos of all the docs for almost a week, and several times he let us stay there after hours to finish up... He is a really great guy~~ good luck :) Sincerly, Becky Date: Sun, 9 Mar 2008 19:10:00 -0400 (Eastern Daylight Time) From: "Marshalls" <usmarsh@cox.net> Subject: [ALBIBB] Bibb research To: <albibb@rootsweb.com> Message-ID: <47D46E48.00000B.02736@USMARSH> Content-Type: Text/Plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Hello Bibb List, I am planning a research trip to Bibb County next month but am not sure of hotel accommodations near so I won't have to travel too far back and forth to the courthouse.
