    3. Donald M Logan, Ph. D. 6406 Blarwood Drive Austin, Texas 78745 512-441-7049 April 13, 2008 The pages of the Pratt family book total approximately 150. While I have not checked to be sure, I believe that copy should be no more than 10 cents per page. Judith Desmond Stewart, daughter of Marguerite Logan and George Desmond, provided the information. As I write this, it occurs to me that we need to get Judith's permission to share this information. Many of the pages are family records that she must have compiled herself. Families covered are: Pratt, Wallace, Logan, Desmond, Blake, Vernon, and others. (Including Beaver, Lightsey, Hampton, Riley, Head). The past two days I have had a cold, and am not feeling too chipper. I wish that one of you would phone Judy, and ask if it would be OK for me to Share the information. This will be much more efficient than for me to write a letter. You might ask if she has any need or use for the Heritage of Bibb County. I have two copies of this to get rid of, and it might be an opportunity for all of us to express our gratitude for her work. Thank you Don Caroline, perhaps you would be the one to phone...if you are not already in Italy. (you did not say where you were going, but if you are studying Italian, I presume it is not Morrocco). I have begun to type a list of the books, even though there is a box I have not been able to find. Also, there are many more genealogy books that may be more interesting for a library, I was going to show to the Pre-1800 Logan list of 350, but I will show it to you when it is completed. I have decided not to wait, even though a couple of the books have a lot of information about each county in AL, and is great for the beginning researcher. dl

    3. Julie, I am glad you wrote. Perhaps you can clear up some questions I have had for many years.\ When I was in Bibb County, I met Jimmie. (His brother, whose name I regrettably cannot remember at this moment, but he was very active on the list....and Jimmie Belchers brother). Jimmie was helping me find Avery Cemetery, and I asked about Belcher Lumber. He said: We are not that Belcher. Can you tell me more about Jimmie and his brother, and their parents. I know the one I cannot remember sent me a lot of info, as we were cousins via Harriet Logan Jones, and there was another line that I do not recall at the moment. thank you. 2. I recently ran across a geocities website done by a Harold Belcher. It has descendants from Alfred Buford Belcher. When it gets to down to my family, the information is wrong and I would love to get it cleared up. The obituary that ran when my father died was totally wrong. It was reprinted by the paper two days later but apparently, a lot of people rely on the obits that are originally printed. When doing research and using obits, keep in mind that the obit is only as accurate as the person at the paper who put it together. 3. I have experienced a couple of these sites and I'm very glad that the generations network is on top of it. Thanks Liz for posting this here. I have always trusted content from TGN and am a bit wary of most others. There are legitimate sites out there offering information and we shouldn't dismiss all of them out of hand just because they aren't a part of TGN, but just be careful who you give your own information to. 3. Thanks for the warning, Liz. This same notice just appeared on Dick Eastman's newsletter. The sites claim to have "the largest online genealogical search tool" and promote themselves as the foremost resources for genealogy, but from what we can tell, these sites are nothing more than a series of web pages with links to other services. These sites, in our opinion, are clearly fraudulent. On each site, potential customers are lured to purchase under what we feel to be false, misleading and deceitful promotional material, and get little or no value out of money spent at the websites. Blog and message board posts from the community confirm this opinion. The people/companies behind the websites are buying very high level paid search results on Google and other sites. In addition, they are using trademarks of well-known websites, including Ancestry.com and Genealogy.com, to get higher-than-normal natural search results. It appears the site colors, fonts, and pictures on at least one site are designed to mislead people in to believing the site is related to Ancestry.com. As the leading online family history company, The Generations Network, Inc. and its website properties including Ancestry.com and its global network of Ancestry sites, Genealogy.com, and Rootsweb, we want to encourage consumers to validate and verify the legitimacy of a website before providing credit card information or paying for services. 1. Re: [ALBIBB] genealogy books
    2. Hello I have made a trip to Bibb and to west blocton and wanted to search for loose papers but missed the place. If you run across the Andrew Smith, line from Archibald, who had had Sarah/Sareffitta Ellieth Smith who married Aloway Horton I would be greatful for the info. Joyce Horton Broadhead Thorsby Music Mart Joyce -----Original Message----- From: Susan York <yorksusan@att.net> To: albibb@rootsweb.com Sent: Thu, 10 Apr 2008 3:50 pm Subject: Re: [ALBIBB] genealogy books I am really pleased of the interest in the books. A man is helping me go through boxes, and boxes...and as he speaks only Spanish... I used to think I was pretty good, but he talks to me with sign as though I were two... so it must not be as good as I thought. Still he is too helpful, and will carry boxes off, when I wanted them near... so, I have yet to come across the box in which I placed the books in order to keep them separate. they are a little more separate than I had wanted.\ Yesterday, however, I came across a gold mine, that I had looked for before. There are several on line who have asked about Pratt history; or, Wallace history. Well, I have about a 12 pages history, mainly of Pratt...but it does cover some Wallace, especially Theodocia Pratt and her marriage to _____Wallace, etc. (my line) I will get more info and count pages, but it is considerably more detailed than the Heritage Bibb Co., book. I will tell you pages, and cost of xerox and shipping if any are interested....but later. sorry to be so very slow in this. 1. [ALBIBB] Smith, Andrew - Archibald, Horton
    2. caroline
    3. Joyce, unless all of us looking for a connection with those Bibb Co. Smiths have been badly mistaken, *one* Andrew David Smith (I assume that's who you mean) was not descended from Archibald. My Andrew's father was Thomas Smith who married Mary Vernon. Andrew m. Joanna Caffee, they are my gt. grandparents. Of course, there may have been another Andrew who descended from Archibald but I'm not familiar with that line. There were a number of Smiths in the county and many of us on the list tried to "match" them several years ago. The Alabama Archives has the Alabama loose records on microfilm if you are close enough to make a trip to Montgomery. Also, the Alabama Genealogical Society http://algensoc.org/ is putting an all-name index of the county loose records on the web site. Be patient as not all counties had an index done (Autauga didn't) and I and some others will have to go to the Archives and make the index from the microfilm. Have you checked the Bibb list archives at http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/ALBIBB/ ? You can also browse the archives by last name by using "Search" at the top right of the archives page. Also, have you checked the web page for Bibb at http://www.rootsweb.com/~albibb/ ? And are your Hortons from Alabama, specifically Etowah, Blount, and Jefferson counties?
