    1. Re: [ALBIBB] ALBIBB Digest, Vol 3, Issue 104
    2. Don, A good place to find the value of your books is to look on Ebay and Amazon.com They have many used books for sale so you could get an idea of what yours might be worth. You simply have to type the title in and to see if they have one listed. You might have some out of print books that are valuable so I'd certainly check there. I recently sold some of my parents books on Amazon for my Dad and he didn't realize they were worth a lot more than he paid for them. However, many people have copied old books without copyright and made them available online as CD;s which sometimes brings down the value but if you have some unopened, they are usually valued by collectors on Ebay or Amazon. You are wise to take your time looking through them. I'm still interested in books from any Alabama county on genealogy. I'm trying to put as much genealogy information online in a free "virtual" central Alabama Genealogy Library so researchers won't have to travel to Alabama so often to do genealogy research. With gas prices like they are...it is great to do as much research online as possible. I plan to have a page on my site very soon where people may advertise their books for sale and a forum for discussions and queries. With plans I have for the future on my website, I may be able to help some researchers, who would like something for their research, generate a little additional income through www.alabamapioneers.com If anyone is interested in this possibility, contact me at info@alabamapioneers.com Donna Causey www.alabamapioneers.com Documenting Alabama's History We are what we were... ----- Original Message ----- From: <albibb-request@rootsweb.com> To: <albibb@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, April 24, 2008 2:00 AM Subject: ALBIBB Digest, Vol 3, Issue 104 > > > Today's Topics: > > 1. Shipping would also need to be paid, and I will have a lady give me an estimated cost on that. thank you. Don Logan Austin Texas

    2. >From another list... May or may not connect to Bibb Co Pratts ...I am just trying to help someone. E-mail message [SCCHARLE] GILDERSLEEVE FAMILY: From Shelly Cardiel" <cardiels@comcast.net> To:    GILDERSLEEVE Family Photographs..............................................I've "rescued" three old photographs belonging to the GILDERSLEEVE and PRATT Families. The first two photographs are of Johanna Frances GILDERSLEEVE PRATT and were taken at the Hamilton Studio in Laredo, Texas. They are identical photographs one with the date, Jan 28 1898 and the other Jan 25 1898 with one noting that Johanna is 62 years old at the time the photograph was taken. One of the photographs also identifies her as "Mrs. H. B. PRATT of Laredo, TX". The third photograph is one of Paul PRATT Jr. and was taken at the Campbell & Co. Studio in Richmond, Virginia. This photograph was probably taken in the 1890's with Paul noted as 2 1/2 months old at the time the photograph was taken. There is also another photograph which I believe may be connected to this family, it is one of Louise WYLIE taken at a studio in Columbia, South Carolina with indications that Louise's Mother was a PRATT by birth. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding the family: Joanna Frances GILDERSLEEVE b. 25 Jan 1836 in Charleston, SC to parents Benjamin GILDERSLEEVE (b. 5 Jan 1791 in New Canaan, CT) and Emma Louisa LANNEAU (b. 24 Feb 1804 in Charleston, SC). Joanna died 13 Aug 1904 in Portsmouth, VA. Paul J. PRATT Jr. b. 2 Sept 1894 in Richmond, VA to parents Paul J. PRATT and Belle Algeo NEWELL. Paul married Adelaide ELY on 29 Jan 1914 in Rutherford, NJ and he died 16 Jul 1967 in Lake Worth, FL. 3. Locating a funeral home past and present- Present: www.funeralnet.com, "Yellow Book of funeral Directors" by Nokomis publishing. Old: Contact the existing funeral home(s) in the town or next town where the old one was. Funeral homes do not usually go out of business, but sell out to someone else who takes it over under a different name. Ask, "Do you know where the records of ______ funeral home are"? Look for funeral home records in libraries and especially University manuscript collections. Use www.worldcat.org to search for funeral home records and many other things. Liz Hicks You want the ledger sheets of the deceased funeral. I've had tremendous help from funeral homes and their records. Remember, if you're trying to find a cemetery, ask the funeral home in the area. They have to know as may have a request to bury someone there. ------ Original Message ------ Received: Mon, 14 Apr 2008 11:35:00 PM EDT From: "usmarsh" <usmarsh@cox.net> To: <albibb@rootsweb.com> Subject: [ALBIBB] Funeral Homes of Past Can anyone tell me about Heard undertaker back in the 1920's. I am not sure when he went out of business. Where would his records be now? His name "Hill Heard" shows up on a relatives death cert from March of 1920. It says he was in Brent. I had a wonderful time there on my research trip last week. I found out a lot of good and bad things. I will take them both. I did find that the Centreville paper did not have African American obits for the 1940's. But the suggestion from a list member was well appreciated since I was able to cross out one more source. At least I and others won't wonder about that one any more. Also does anyone know Mr. Lockett that supposedly takes care of Coopers and or Centreville cemetery? I need to reach him. The LDS have come in to the basement at the Annex and organized and boxed a lot of the documents up. The rest of the huge books are still there. There are a few tax list from the late 1890's, only about 4 or 5 of them. There are no others, according to staff there. Would old tax records have had to be filed at the state level and would they have copies of those missing years. They said that they weren't even aware of the 1848 tax list that is out there. 3. >When I was in Bibb County, I met Jimmie. (His brother, whose name I regrettably cannot remember at this moment, but he was very active on the list....and Jimmie Belchers brother). Jimmie was helping me find Avery Cemetery, and I asked about Belcher Lumber. He said: We are not that Belcher. Don, the brother was Herman Belcher. He was the "genealogist" of Bibb County! And a great guy. Much of his knowledge is in the Bibb list archives as well as the web page. Caroline
