Thank you so much for the kind comments. Uncle Frank and Abney's store in Maplesville was like a scene from a Norman Rockwell painting or from the Andy Griffith Show. I think that anyone who ever visited there will confirm that. Any time that you entered the store there would always be a small group of men seated up front on boxes or upturned spools of wire talking or playing checkers. The store itself had a timeless quality and was a real mix of old and new items. and was a great place to browse. It was a wonderful place for a boy to visit. Frank and Abney loved their family, their neighbors and their town. I miss them both. My condolences as well. I met John Brown at an Bibb County Ancestor Swapmeet in the 90's. Only genealogists will appreciate the following remark-at least now Thomas Abney Brown knows who all the g.g.g.g.g.g. are. Over the years we have had many outstanding genealogy researchers in Alabama and all of us have become beneficiaries of their work. I am devoting a page on my website to honor them, both past and present but I don't know all the names. If you know of any outstanding researcher that should be added to the list, please email me directly at info@alabamapioneers.com so I can add them to the list. I want to give them credit for their efforts. Thanks a bunch. Donna Causey www.alabamapioneers.com Documenting Alabama's History We are what we were...
Gary, I went to GOOGLE EARTH, typed in Helena, AL USA, and went North on Co. Rd. 52, to Co. Rd. 13, followed it until I located the Cahaba River....adjust the zoom. In the vicinity I gave you previously, there is a large bend in the river, which is probably the area you are searching for. You might also try _http://www.cahabariversociety.org/_ (http://www.cahabariversociety.org/) Someone there may be able to give you the names of Cahaba River historians who are familiar with the cemetery location you are searching for in that particular area. Very smart, Chuck. Do you have to contact the owners of the land before you do anything else? Family fenced in the Lawrence Cemetery in Randolph Co., NC with Carroll Shelby's help and put up an inscribed monument, but the owner gave permission as she was also a descendant. ----- Original Message ----- From: "cwk1951 cwk1951" <cwk1951@msn.com> To: <albibb@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, June 22, 2008 8:28 PM Subject: Re: [ALBIBB] Big Sandy and Little Sandy Baptist Church Cemeteries on Hwy 69 Evelyn I digitally photographed Clark cemetery, but didn't do it justice. It's in deep woods and trees are growing right up our of the graves. It's dark, bug infested, and covered with poision ivy ect. We need to get someone to clear the trees, and rake off several feet of leaves and mulch, so we can see if there are more tombstones hidden there. Most graves have only a rock for a marker. Maybe I'll have the place cleaned up, and then see if you can help us have it re-photographed. Irma J. Roy and Peg, I requested information a couple weeks ago about cemeteries which could contain Hollie Middleton Henderson. I got two responses from the list. One from Irma J. Roy and another from a Peg. Irma j. also indicated that James Ammons is still alive and living in Bessemer, Al. I looked him up, found his phone number and contacted him several times, email and telephone. I sent him a map with the locations of the two different cemetery sites that Irma J., and Peg descripted to me. I also have a cemetery location that was provided several years ago by a Ralph N. Henderson from Florida. It seems that there are hendrsons (Close family members buried in each of the three cemeteries), but the one I am trying to locate turns out to be the one that Ralph N. Henderson provided. James Ammons responded to my inquries as the correct burial location for Hollie Middleton Henderson Sr. is in an unmarked cemetery located about 400 feet from the Cahaba River on what was known as "Stein's Bend". I have been trying to find documentation of the location of "Stein's Bend" with no success. James Ammons said that Stein's Bend went by the name of "Rattlesnake Bend". Any how, I would appreciate the help of the Bibb County Historical Cemetery people to locate the so stated cemetery before we lose the guidance of the good man James Ammons and his knowledge. Since he is 93 years old, not able to get to the cemetery, if someone with a detailed map could visit James and have him indicate directions of travel to get to the cemetery it would be an answer to my prayers. Since I live in Idaho, it is not possible for me to do the footwork from 2300 miles away. I do have a computer file of several maps that could be used, and I also have some photos of the grave stones that were taken about twenty years ago if that would helpd someone find and GPS the cemetery. I appreciate anything you or folks on the list can do as Hollie and his wife Sarah are waiting for us to locate and mark their resting spot. Regards, Gary Henderson - Meridian, Idaho </HTML>

Have both cemeteries been chronicled? tombstones digitally photographed and placed on the internet for researchers? usually through rootsweb?
