    3. Believe me, after 20 years of reading genealogy, there are a lot of illegitimate as well as secrets about fathers of children EVERYWHERE in every family! All those children who were really grandchildren and all those children whose fathers were not the husbands.....If DNA were 100%, it would be the only true way to tell. All the rest of genealogy is hypothetical and only accurate if the women told the truth about the fathers. It is strange to me that our lineage doesn't go by maternity instead of paternity. But, that's just cultural. Still, genealogy is great fun and the family we meet is still OUR FAMILY. I had a sweet uncle who used to tease us by reminding us that we all just came from Adam and Eve! ----- Original Message ----- From: "JoEllen Holmes" <jholmeslcsw@gmail.com> To: <albibb@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, August 18, 2008 9:03 PM Subject: Re: [ALBIBB] Hill Family > This is what I have... > This information came from a distant cousin - Karlan Holack who lives in > Boston, GA (yes Georgia) - which is in South Georgia - and a "suburb" of a > little town called Thomasville. > Karlan was a Langston prior to marriage. 3. Hi Karlan, I know that it has been a while since we have talked - about the Langstons and Hill family tree... But I am on the Bibb County Roots list serv, and there has been alot of activity regarding the need for information about the Hills. I am CCing this to the list, because alot of folks have responded and had questions. I have responded by saying that Richard Hill's mother, Elizabeth Hill had him illigitimately, perhaps due to prostitution or other reasons. There is now discussion on this list serv that the Hills were Native American or had some connection as African American. So could it be possible that the illigitimacy could be connected to the shame of being related to AA or NA? I am attaching the other e-mails that have this discussion. It would be great if you could chime in on this, since you have done some research on this. I know that you have gotten stuck with info on Elizabeth Hill. I think that there are others who might have some more information.... -- Jo Ellen Holmes fromdianehammsciara@aol.com reply-toalbibb@rootsweb.com togc-gateway@rootsweb.com, albibb@rootsweb.com dateSat, Aug 16, 2008 at 9:15 PM subjectRe: [ALBIBB] Hill Family mailing list<albibb.rootsweb.com> Filter messages from this mailing list mailed-byrootsweb.com hide details Aug 16 (2 days ago) Reply Still trying to research James W. 3. This is what I have... This information came from a distant cousin - Karlan Holack who lives in Boston, GA (yes Georgia) - which is in South Georgia - and a "suburb" of a little town called Thomasville. Karlan was a Langston prior to marriage. Her great grandfather, like mine was Marshall Monroe. Karlan has done extensive research. I have not seen her research, but believe that she has put alot of sweat and tears, etc. Marshall Monroe married Effie Hill. Effie's father was James Washingto Hill, a.k.k Richard Hill. Richard's wife was named, Mandy Moria Ann Frances Jones. Her parents wer Raiford Jones and Delilah Stackman. His mother was Elizabeth Hill. This is where Karlan got stuck, as she told me. Karlan said that Richard was illigitimate. And rumor has it that Elizabeth could have been a prostitute.... That is not confirmed, but a oral story... Therefore Richard's father is hard to trace as will as Elizabeth. If you find out, please let me know. I would love to know how we are connected. JoEllen Holmes
