I am researching William Haithcoat of Bedford Co Tn 1830-1850, then he moved to KY. So can anyone tie him to any of the Hathcock men in Bibb Co Al , he would have been born about 1810. He was 20 in the 1830 B C Tn census and married so possibly he was married in Bibb Co also. Like everyone else back then his name was spelled differently on the different documents. His mother was Mary Palmore from Buckingham Co VA. She was the daughter of Joseph Palmore of B C VA. Thanks, Jerry

There is a "last name" index in each book, usually no first name. Almost every county in Alabama has had a book published. Many libraries have the complete collection and it may be that an archives or large genealogy library in your area has these books. Even if there is not an article about your direct family you may be surprised at the information about collateral lines you can find, simply by checking the index for last names or - as I did with the Jefferson Co., Ala. book - read each page - I was amazed at the information contained about my mother-in-law's family lines which I would not have found otherwise. I think there is a possibility that my GG Grandfather? James W. Hill (Richard)?born 1854 was adopted by a Gothard family along with his brother after his mother Elizabeth died.? I found a Richard Gothard in the 1880 census for Bibb married to Francis and that was my GG Grandmother's name.? He could have after that at some time gone back to the surname Hill.
