Author: campbell207 Surnames: CARDEN/CARDIN, CASON, RUTLAND, HONEYCUTT, LLOYD Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.alabama.counties.bibb/3798.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Thanks for your reply. That may explain where Elizabeth (HONEYCUTT) CARDEN TOLBY died and is probably buried. Now I need to do some more research on William TOLBY to see where his family is from. Here's what I know of my Larkin CARDEN and Elizabeth HONEYCUTT... Larkin CARDEN b. 1808 Fairfield, SC d. Dec 1862 Mobile, AL m. 7 Nov 1831 Perry Co., AL to Elizabeth HONEYCUTT b. 1813 GA d. unknown. Larkin is a son of James CARDEN b. 1780 Fairfield, SC d. 1840 Perry Co., AL m. 1800 Fairfield, SC to Charity RUTLAND b. 1780 SC d. 1840. While some of James CARDEN's siblings and extended family moved to Tennessee (the ones you list in your last post), James CARDEN moved to Alabama. I'm trying to figure out if some of Charity RUTLAND's family moved to Alabama and James CARDEN followed them or if James just moved there on his own. Do you have any information on the RUTLAND family? My Larkin CARDEN died in a hospital in Mobile, AL during the Civil War (I believe from the flu rather than injuries). Larkin's widow Elizabeth (HONEYCUTT) CARDEN married William TOLBY on 23 Jan 1864 but I don't know where. I assume in Perry Co., AL, but need documents. I found Elizabeth (HONEYCUTT) (CARDEN) TOLBY and William TOLBY in Bibb Co., AL in the 1870 census with her two youngest children by Larkin CARDEN: 1870 Bibb Co., AL census dwelling #18, family #18 TOLBY William 37 M roller MD TOLBY Elizabeth 52 F keeping house AL CARDEN Julia 14 F AL CARDEN Henry 11 M AL Then I lose Elizabeth completely. Henry CARDEN (my direct line) shows up again in the 1900 Jefferson Co., AL census married with a family of his own. His wife is Laura S. LLOYD b. 7 Jun 1858 Fayette Co., GA d. 14 Feb 1929 Blount Co., AL. I was never sure how Henry and Laura met since she lived in Rome, Floyd Co., GA with her family. But this explains it. The new mystery is, why did William TOLBY and Elizabeth (HONEYCUTT) (CARDEN) TOLBY move to Floyd Co., GA? Also, I'm still looking for marriage certificates for all involved above. Are you related to this line? Do you have any other information on any of these folks? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. This is not an appropriate post, Caroline, I know, but I thought you guys might like to see what Factcheck says about your supreme court race. I suspect you all are aware. love to all, happy Halloween...hope I don't get too scared. don ----- Original Message ----- From: FactCheck.org To: moodylogan@windstream.net Sent: Thursday, October 23, 2008 6:06 PM Subject: New FactCheck Article: Court Fight in the Heart of Dixie Court Fight in the Heart of Dixie October 23, 2008 Dyspeptic dueling for an Alabama Supreme Court seat. Another in our Court Watch series. Summary Alabama holds the distinction of having had the nation's most expensive Supreme Court races, with $54 million spent from 1993 through 2006. This year's battle for an open seat on the bench seems likely to sustain the pattern, with heaps of cash being thrown down for ads and a tone that has turned ugly. The attacks in the Alabama campaign have been a departure from what we've seen in high court races in most states this year, with the notable exception of Wisconsin. We wrote about some of the ads in that mudfest back in March and April, but subsequent campaigns in other states have been mostly civil affairs, to the surprise of many observers of recent trends in judicial elections. In Alabama, though, things have taken a decidedly negative - and misleading - turn. a.. Paid phone callers claimed that Democrat Deborah Bell Paseur had been given an "F" rating by the state bar association. In fact, the group gives no such grades to judicial candidates, and its president says the false calls are "reprehensible." b.. A Paseur ad said Republican Greg Shaw is "backed by more than a million dollars tied to gas and oil lobbyists." But that's just her guess. The group she's referring to doesn't disclose where it gets its money, and it deals with more than just oil and gas issues. c.. A Shaw ad claims that he is "serving Alabama with Supreme Court experience." But Shaw is only a judge on the Criminal Court of Appeals, not a Supreme Court justice. He once worked as a lawyer for two justices. Note: This is a summary only. It is in very bad shape, overgrown with trees, ect. and has been damaged by logging. There are few tombstones left standing. Someone has dug up one of the graves. Larkin CARDEN/CARDIN b. 1808, Fairfield Co, SC, d. Dec 1862, Mobile, AL, m. 7 Nov 1831 to Elizabeth HONEYCUTT b. 1813 GA, d. aft 1870. I have that they had the following children: George W., Landor, Clementine, James F., Mary Jane, Crawford, Perry, Newton, Randall, Julia and Henry. Henry was born 17 Sep 1860 after the 1860 census was taken. Oral family tradition has that Larkin CARDEN died in Mobile, AL, from pneumonia during Civil War. After Larkin's death, his widow Elizabeth HONEYCUTT CARDEN married William TOLBY (b. 1833 in MD) on 23 Jan 1864. I am looking for citations for documents for this family including marriage certificates for both of Elizabeth HONEYCUTT CARDEN's marriages as well as any wills for Larkin CARDEN or Elizabeth HONEYCUTT CARDEN TOLBY. Can anyone help??? --Stephanie in VA email to SJCampbell at comcast dot net Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
