On the 1850 census Jacob Sr. was a jailor, and Jacob Jr. was listed as a sailor. On the 1860 census, Jacob Sr. was listed as a farmer. I am trying to trace the daughter, Frances Elisabeth or Elizabeth who was on the 1850 census as 11 years of age and doesn't appear with the family on the 1860 census. Her daughter, Emeline Nott appears on the 1860 census living with the family. Frances Elisabeth was married to a Walter Nott who was, I think, a ship captain or at least worked as a sailor. I cannot find Walter anywhere until Emeline Nott Lipsey's death record in Philly where he was listed as Walter Edward Nott, father. I don't know where Elisabeth is in 1860, but I found her on the 1880 census living with a James Palmer in Philly working as a seamstress. By 1880, Emeline was married to Wm. Lipsey and living in the Philly area. If you have access to the family burial in NJ and there is a Walter Nott buried there, please let me know. I cannot find any trace of him, nor can I find a marriage record for him and Elisabeth. Thank you for replying. I hope we can make some connection here.
