Author: cbotteron Surnames: Albeson, Albertson Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.albertson/465/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Does anyone have good information on Nicholas Albeson / Albertson "The Sweede" of Scituate, Mass.? Here's a summary of what I have. Would appreciate any further info or suggestions. Nicholas ALBESON was probably born about 1610. He was living in Scituate in 1636 (Gen. Reg. of Plymouth Families, Davis, 1975). "Could not discover Nicholas's children except for Deane's remark that he was eccentric and 'baptized his own children.' Nothing in Scituate records. It is said that a grandson lived in Barnstable Co." (Boston Transcript, Mar. 6, 1911, 9418) In 1676 Indians burned "the hut of Nicholas Albeson, 'The Sweede,' on Parker's Lane." (Old Scituate, p 11) Torrey listed his marriage in Scituate, but did not include the bride's name or the date. John, son of Nicholas (see Jacob below) unknown son of John Jacob ALBERTSON born about 1725 probably in Plymouth. "of Swedish descent, prob. grandson of John of Yarmouth, who was son of Nicholas of Scituate, 1636; m. Margaret Nicolson, 1750, and had Jacob, 1752, William, Elizabeth, and Rufus." (Gen. Reg. of Plymouth Families, Davis, 1975) Here's where I get really confused: Family record (Vital Records of Plymouth, MA to 1850, book 2, page 241): [p. 107] The children of Jacob Albertson & Margaret his wife 1 Jacob Albertson born Jan. 30th 1752 2 William Albertson born [blank] 3 Elizabeth Albertson born [blank] 4 Rufus Albertson born [blank] the said Jacob Albertson, the father of the family abovesaid, born in North Carrolina in the County of Pasquetank,' and drowned on a fishing voyage from Plimo. in the year [blank] said Margaret his wife decd. at Plimo. Jacob ALBERTSON b. 30 Jan 1752 in Plymouth, Mass., married Lydia RIDER on 30 Nov 1775 in Plymouth. He was in the Revolutionary War and died 13 Oct 1832 i Providence, R.I. Hoping someone can clarify this, especially the Scituate vs. North Carolina business. adTHANKSvance! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. This would be located in davidson/randolph/guilford county, nc. Somewhere near thomasville or northern randolph is my guess. I have a family photo from about 1920 of a family member standing in front of an tall memorial gravestone. It is a family cemetery, ringed by a wooden split rail fence, midsize for a family graveyard. There is a field on one side and cedar trees along another. Yes, I have looked on findagrave - no luck. I ask because there are a few other snapshots in the same cemetery, with recent burial in background - but most of our family is buried in the church cemeteries. So I want to know where this place is.... Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. David Albertson (1764-1842) had a tavern licence in 1811 and was elected as a town official in 1813 in Trafalgar Twp., Halton Co., Ontario. He died in the same township. Many Upper Canadians did return to or move to the US after the War of 1812. If it was your David he would have had to be in NY in 1817 and then return again to Trafalgar Twp. This seems unlikely. I will try to find out if the Trafalgar David's wife was on his gravemarker. If it was Lila I will get back to you. I am not related to this family but have a historical interest in them and trying to work out their family history. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
