William Marion McCarty was born at Papillion, Nebraska on October 22, 1874 and passed quietly to his rest on June 6th, 1960 at McBride, B.C. at the age of 85 years and eight months. Mr. McCarty's grandparents homesteaded near Omaha, Nebraska. HIs parents homesteaded near Alma, Nebraska but returned permanently to Omaha. In 1891 Mr. McCarty returned to Alma to operate his father's farm. He greatly enjoyed the singing schools of the day. On June 2nd, 63 years ago, he was united in marriage to Idella Myrtle Russell. To this union were born eight children, one of whom, Horace Marion, predeceased his father in 1900. In 1906 Mr. McCarty and his father made a trip to Stettler, Alberta, where his brothers Clarence and Walter had homesteaded. He made other trips to Canada in 1910 and 1911. He was active in organizing the Red Willow Mutual Telephone Company and helped to operate it for many years. He was active in church work and helped to start the Stettler Seventh-day Adventist church. Mr. and Mrs. McCarty left the farm near Stettler and moved to Rocky Mountain House in 1941. There he worked for the Lamming Lumber Company. Two years later when Lamming Lumber moved to a location six miles west of McBride, B.C. they moved too, and have lived at Lamming Mills, B.C. since that time. Mr. McCarty worked at Lamming Mills until after a severe stroke in 1950. Since then he has suffered a number of strokes and has been bedfast the last year. He entered the hospital for the last time on June 1st. Funeral services were conducted by Pastor John Holstein in the Seventh-day Adventist church at Lamming Mills, B.C. and interment was in the McBride cemetary. Left to mourn the deceased are his wife, Mrs. Myrtle McCarty of Lamming Mills, B.C.; two sons, Russell of Stettler, Alberta and Melvin of Lamming Mills; five daughters, Delia, Mrs. Luther Hansen, of Castro Valley, California; Wilma, Mrs. E.V. Lamming, of Lamming Mills, B.C.; Zella, Mrs. Johnstone of Prineville Oregon; Florence, Mrs. Lester Johnson of Stettler, Alberta; and Doris, Mrs. Hans Wettstein, of Cloverdale, B.C. There is also one brother, Clarence, of Stettler; three sisters, Mrs. Chas. Angier of San Diego, California; Mrs. Susie Lilley of Omaha, Nebraska; Mrs. Helen Lyster of Chula Vista, California; 32 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren and host of other relatives and friends. Pallbearers were three of his grandsons, Mervin McCarty, Dale Lamming, and Cliff Brucks; and Karl Johnson, Elmer Buhier, Wilber Gordon.
