There were several towns in that area northeast of Calgary. Drumheller and Nacmine are two that come to mind. Hope this helps Jan McGowan

    1. [ALBERTA] Lethbridge 1909 to 1917

    3. I have some questions and perhaps someone can help provide answers. In the years 1909 to 1917, there are at least two men in my husband's family who left their farms near Wiste near Consort/Loyalist, and travelled to Lethbridge or Hardieville(?) to mine or find other employment. In those days, this would have been quite a distance. I found this information on Dominion Land Grant documents. The surnames are Winer(s) and Polichek. Does anyone have lists of those who worked in the mines during these years? Would there have been other reasons besides mining why the men went to the Lethbridge area leaving their families behind on the farm? Is it probable that the men took their families when they went to Lethbridge? I know one daughter was born there while the family supposedly still resided on the farm. Was there a minimum age of young men allowed to work in the mines, as one son seemed to have disappeared during this time. I am wondering if the son could have met with an accident in a mine? I would appreciate your thoughts and any leads you might have. Thanks. Diane Anderson Victoria, BC
