This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Mitchell & Downie from Crathie to Canada Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/TNC.2ACI/2690 Message Board Post: I have a James Mitchell born 1882 in Crathie, Aberdeenshire, Scotland who left there sometime after in 1901. In the census of that year he was working in the nearby Lochnagar Distillery. According to the nominal rolls on the Alberta FHS site, he enlisted in the Canadian Expeditionary Forces on the 19th January 1915 at Calgary. He gave his father in Scotland as next of kin so I am presuming he wasn't married by then. I haven't found him on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission so am presuming he didn't die in World War 1. I would be grateful for any assistance in finding out more about him and of course would be thrilled to make contact with any relative also! Tish ps - I'm not based in Canada so all my research has to be on-line!
