Hi to all Alberta researchers! I am carrying out a One Name Study into the surname ANDERTON and would be interested in any snippets of information about Andertons in Alberta. I am particularly interested in George Anderton (of Leeds, Yorkshire), the first resident photographer in the North West Territories, who worked around Fort Walsh from 1876-1879, and is reputed to have taken the lst photo of Chief Sitting Bull before he died! On the 1901 census of Alberta I have found the following Andertons: ANDERTON Alfred 39 Stndoff ANDERTON Alice 03 Stndoff ANDERTON Edith L 35 MacLeo1 ANDERTON George 53 Stndoff ANDERTON Mary 03 Stndoff ANDERTON Wm Gordon 05 MacLeo1 ANDERTON Wm S 55 MacLeo1 But don't know if this is the George I am looking for. Also from the 1891 census, another group: ANDERTON, Alfred M 38 ON METH LumberMan ANDERTON, George M 30 England CE Rancher 3C ANDERTON, William M 43 England CE PhotographerC3 But here the photographer is William not George!
