Greetings! Hopefully someone will find the following information of interest, and will be able to provide me with some clues on the following: My great great grandparents were: Alfred Edward MABERLY Born Unknown date in England? Died between 1940-1945? Unknown location. Martha MATHESON Born Unknown date & location Died Unknown date, likely in Canada (perhaps Calgary, Alberta area) Alfred and Martha had 10 Children: -Caroline Maberly (m. Jim BARNES) -Martha Gertrude Maberly (my great-grandmother) (m. Joseph John GILLIS) Born Jan 5, 1889 in Kimberly, South Africa Died March 28, 1975 in Burnaby, British Columbia. (Burnaby is a suburb of Vancouver) -Alec Maberly (died at a young age) (m. Lillian) -Charlotte Maberly -Collier Maberly -Dorothy Maberly (m. Robert GORDON) -Emily Maberly -Frances Maberly (m. Bert HAYWARD) -George Maberly (died at a young age) -John Maberly (m. Rose) It is believed that Caroline was the oldest child, then Martha. The Maberly family moved to Calgary, Alberta in February 1908 where they settled on 19th Avenue. They built a large home on the North Hill and soon Sunday school and worship services were held in the home by April 1908. It was known as Crescent Heights Methodist Church. In the fall of 1908, Crescent Heights United Church was built on the Hill. Does anyone know if this church still exists? It is rumored that Alfred became estranged from his wife & family sometime after 1908 and it is unknown where in the world he went. Perhaps US, Mexico, or back to South Africa? I would be very grateful if anyone could provide further information about the Maberly family of Calgary. If required, more information can be found on my web site at http://www.members.home.net/jensgenealogy/index.html Best Regards, Jennifer Chidlow
