Good Afternoon Jay, Only my opinion. Information found in Census Records - Is Genealogy Research. Sometimes the only way that people can find a missing part of their family history. The 1906 and 1911 Census records are especially important - They will include information about the many family members who emigrated to Canada - in that particular time frame. Many people had not been concerned about who they were - or where they came from . and never asked many questions. then find that after the loss of a family member - the loss of a source of information - that this becomes so very important to them So many people - know only the most current family histories - that is why they are attempting to research - using every means possible - This includes the Census - People of Eastern European Extraction - have a very difficult time tracing their histories - political changes in their countries over the years - make research difficult - The information on the Census - may or may not prove to be helpful - but at least it is another step - and gives hope. Had we been born - in a different and earlier time - we would know the information - that we now seek. and this process would be unnecessary . Since this is not the case - and since many ,have long ago lost the very people who could have helped us - we seek another source for help. Mailing Lists - Archives - Passenger Lists - Homestead records - and here in Canada and elsewhere in the world - Census Records. Unfortunately - rather than being a more open society - forces appear to be closing ranks and attempting to prevent us from knowing ourselves through our ancestors. What will the next step be ? For your information: There is a Mail List for the Canada Census Campaign: http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/intl/CAN/CANADA-CENSUS-CAMPAIGN.html There is also much information: to be found at the following site: Including printable Petitions etc. http://globalgenealogy.com/Census/Index2.htm Cheers, Stella At 04:50 PM 1/30/02 -0700, jm wrote: >When will we be relieved of this scourge that keeps rearing its ugly head? >No, I am not talking about the members of parliament who were elected by >the Canadian people.
