    3. Hi Gay, You might want to try the Provincial Archive in Edmonton. Births in these early times - hold very little information. but at least you would have a date to go by. They may have at least some of the Birth,Marriage,Deaths - to 1905. when Alberta was still part of the North West Territories. After that -records are considered Private. You might want to contact the Cathedral" http://www.stmaryscalgary.com/ http://www.stmaryscalgary.com/contacts.htm http://www.stmaryscalgary.com/history.htm Cheers, Stella At 04:44 AM 29/01/2007, Gay King wrote: > > >Hi, > >I am looking for a possible source for records for the birth in late >1886/early 1887 in Calgary, N.W.T. of Leopold TIMMINS. 3. Hi, I am looking for a possible source for records for the birth in late 1886/early 1887 in Calgary, N.W.T. of Leopold TIMMINS. The baptism if it exists would be Catholic. I have found that there was /is a Saint Mary's Cathedral in Calgary with parish registers for 1865-1916. Is there another place I should look? Is there anything on-line? Thanks for your help. Gay

    3. Hi June, When I was little - we visited my grandparents farm once a year. Difficult for a little city girl - to understand the catalogue use - I still remember the pictures and words being so fascinating.; Also remember - helping to cut the newspaper - Grown ups used scissors - A pre teen was given one sheet at a time - learned to fold into quarters - then cut with an old [unserrated] dinner knife . Don't know if this was a labour of love, * I do remember feeling quite important and grown up. Way back in 1998 - visiting the old homestead - the outhouse - was still there - An elderly aunt - still used it . She did have a full bathroom in her newish house -but didn't think that it was right to have that room inside - where people slept and ate . though we were allowed to use this facility. Wow, a newspaper link is always a good thing. I will follow up on agsedm.edmonton.ab site. I suppose that growing grain and raising cattle would depend on the terrain. 3. Hi June; I'm the web master & Co-ordinator for Big Lakes County in Alberta, Canada. You can find many links to all sorts of information. Hope you find something that will be helpful in your family research. See; http://rootsweb.com/%7Eabbiglak/biglakes.html I did an on line search for Edson, AB, (Canadian sites only) & found all sorts of links. You might try to contact the local newspaper - they should be able to help you with all sorts of answers. See: http://www.weeklyanchor.com/ The closest AGS would most likely be in Calgary, AB but maybe the one in Edmonton, AB may be as good. I have something for Edmonton you might follow up on, at; http://agsedm.edmonton.ab.ca/ They would likely have been among the pioneer farmers; growing grain for feed or for selling it & raising cattle for milk, meat or for shipment. They likely built a log house, heated with wood in pot bellied stoves, cooked on wood burning ranges, had no running water, no paved highways, no telephones, no electricity & used outdoor 'out-houses' (toilets)- where some of us did our wishful shopping while looking at the Sears or Eaton's catalogues (our toilet paper of the day). The closest elementary school could have been three miles away - we walked or rode horseback. Those were the good old days!!. 3. Hello June: Sorry, I can give you no information of the Waite family, as they were gone by the time I reached Shining Bank at the age of 6 in 1942. Shining Bank was never a town, or even a village. There was no store and when I lived there the mail was brought in from Peers once a week. There was a school and my mother was the teacher there until it was consolidated at Fulham, which you also will find on no map. Shining Bank is scenic, in the foothills. The shining bank is a sandstone slide several miles from the old school and Shining Bank Lake, which for some reason is often written as Shiningbank Lake. If you look at the Yellowhead county website, I think you will find a picture of the campground on the south side of the lake. Shining Bank was on the north side. ----- Original Message ----- From: "June Harvey" <june.harvey@gmail.com> To: <ALBERTA@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, January 13, 2007 7:50 PM Subject: [ALBERTA] Shining Bank > Hello Listers: > > I am new to the Alberta list and have a couple of questions: > > First, by way of explanation: I am working on a branch of a family > tree, as follows: WAITE., Albert and Elizabeth. 2. Darlene and Brian Ward
    3. I was wondering if anyone could help me in finding an obit or cemetery transcription for a Henrietta Waldock? According to the 1963 Henderson Directory for Edmonton, there was a Henrietta Waldock (widow of Chas) at 9709-96 St. There is a Chas Waldock listed in the 1943 directory. I know Henrietta (Hetty) was living in Edmonton in 1970, but that's the last lead I have on her. She was apparently planning to make a book on the History of the McAteer family. She travelled all over, including Ireland in order to complete her research. I have no info on her, but I am trying to find out if she had kids and who they were in order to track down her research. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Darlene
