In the early years - not everyone could read or write -so no correction was made - later names may be changed again making them more anglicized - easier to pronounce etc. Cheers, Stella

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Ladick/HLADICK/HLADYCK Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.canada.alberta.general/4377/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Thanks for all your help. I could not find any Alberta history books with the names HLADICK/HLADYCK.Could you tell me how to find them? I am aware of the Edmonton burial plot paid for by his daughter Jeannine. Unfortunately, any death documents completed by his daughter were soley based on her memory of events, which was vaque. She just didn't know anything about his immigration or his family. Kids just didn't ask a lot of questions in those days, as they might today. That was a good point that the education to grade 6 may have been sporatic over many years for any number of reasons. I realize his family may have moved around in Canada for employment reasons. These are only guesses on my part. I have done some searches in each province for family histories and school photos, not having any luck. This is not saying that there may be some family history books not mentioned on-line. I find it hard to believe that he would come to Canada at age 7, all alone. There has to be a paper trail of some sort from the date of immigration of his whereabouts. What was this other gen. mail list to subscribe to??? I am already on the Bukovina mail list for Romania. laurieladick@yahoo.ca

E. Lewis of McLeod Alberta. He signed up on 21 Jan 1915 in Medicine Hat, Alberta. I would expect that an English family with this many sons would have had more than one sign up for WW I. I am at the beggining of my search. My best friend died in october and he was born in drumheller. All I know is his father went to Alberta to work. In turn Harold Dabbs was born there. His father was Clifford Dabbs. It is my assumption that Cliffords father was Harold Digby Dabbs. I have no proof just information from reading old messages lead me to believe this. Can you help?I would be very interested in learning more about Howard and where the lake was named after him? Thank you from Ontario.

    3. Hi, I am maybe ignorant in regards your query but just quickly reading - A lady from the AGS Edmonton by the name of "gailc" (part of her e-mail address) helped me tremendously as did a lady from the Peace River AGS. Between them they found 4 distant relatives who had passed away in 1949, 1950's and 1961. AGS has a databank of surnames listing people who died there and the AGS will look up a surname for you. --- "gc-gateway@rootsweb.com" <gc-gateway@rootsweb.com> wrote: > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to > this mailing list. > > Surnames: > Classification: queries > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.canada.alberta.general/1025.2.1.1/mb.ashx > > Message Board Post: > > Yes Stella, > Your right, those Death Registration and the address > I gave are from the Govt of Alberta Vital Statistics > Registry Offices and do have a cost.
