Author: genealogy411 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.canada.alberta.general/4381.2.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Thank you for checking on this for me. I haven't checked with the Lethbridge Branch of the AGS yet. It's a branch of the family that is related by marriage, so I didn't want to really impose too much. I really am only interested in finding out the mother's maiden name, but it has been sending me on a wild goose chase. According to a Lethbridge Newspaper, Hughena's sister passed away in 1923 and it also mentioned two brothers. With this information I was then able to find them all in the census in Alberta, but Hughena was already married so she was not with the family. I was thinking because the two youngest daughters were born in Alberta that the book may give the maiden name. Not all is lost though because in another query which you gave me the death date of Archie MCLEAN, I was then able to find him listed in the IGI with his wife Mary MCKENZIE and that death date was also listed. It was a patron submission so it could be wrong. I'll use with a grain of salt :-) Thanks again for all your help. Bye for now. I believe that it is located closer to Plamondon, AB than it is to Lac La Biche but both are within a half hour drive of one another. I saw it in 2003 and it was undergoing a restoration then. I am related to Duperron's on both sides of my family and I can't recall off hand if it was the home of Simeon and Marie Duperron or Stanislas and Rosalie Duperron, both sons of the Francis that you refered to so yes you are correct they are definately connected. I'm 90% certain that it was the home of Simeon but I check with my mother. I'm not sure who would be in charge of maintenance, it may be historical societies in either Lac La Biche or Plamondon or the resoration may have been undertaken by the province of Alberta. I'll see what I can find out for you but if I'm unsuccessful do not despair because I'm planning a trip there over Easter and should should be able to supply you with pictures history. I have been searching for some family members - they do not appear in the AGS Volume - The Surnames are often misspelled - but I believe I have checked every possible variation. Hopefully they may appear in this other volume. If it is for sale - would appreciate knowing the cost etc. Do you know if here was an epidemic of Diptheria, Smallpox or? in Alberta 1904 to Census day 1906.? My grandparents buried - 3 daughters within two days - so the story goes. Vital Stats cannot find any info - but the surname CHMELYK is so often misspelled. Soon after they had this published, more boxes of these pre 1905 files showed up at the Provincial Archives of Alberta. By then a new body "The Alberta's Documentary Heritage Society" at the Archives was stated and they did this second volume, but it's not called volume 2 and not sold by AGS. And it's called "index to Registration of Births, Marriages and Deaths pre 1900" isbn 0-9683255-1-3. I do not have this 2nd one, but phoned the AGS library. let me know and I'll find out how and where this can be purchased. 3. Just moved west from Ontario-Waterloo list. Seeking info on/connections to HARRISON family who arrived in Big Valley area abt 1906. John and Mary Jane [Dyble] Harrison b England came to Canada [Galt,Ontario] in 1890 with 3 children Arthur 1885, William 1886 and Ada 1888. In Ontario 4 more children were born Thomas 1890, Helen 1892, Robert 1895 and Eva Marian 1899 and all the family are together in 1911 census. I have the canadian birth certs. All I have found so far is that:- Thomas enlisted in CEF in 1916 and I have copy of his paper. Arthur marr 1912 to Daisy Orilla Ohlman back in Ontario but an on-line book 'Golden Memories' contains a memoir by an Arthur Harrison who came from Galt, farmed at Fenn and then moved to Stettler in 1949. Must be same Arthur? If anyone has any further info on this family would appreciate hearing from you Cheers Jean

    3. Hi, I don't have information on the Harrison family but the Alberta Genealogical Society has a surname databank/database of people who died in Alberta (maybe it covers anyone that lived in Alberta)(?) I contacted the Edmonton and Peace River branch AGS and between them both they found 4 distant relatives. The Edmonton AGS contact (e-mail gailc.....) and the Peace River AGS contacts were Les & Lois Stranaghan and Paulette. The Edmonton AGS contact also sent me pages of one distant relative who had served in the Boer War enlisting in Pincher Creek. (I would not have known of this avenue). Hope you find your relatives. --- Jean Greenwood <Jean.greenwood2@ntlworld.com> wrote: > Just moved west from Ontario-Waterloo list. > > Seeking info on/connections to HARRISON family who > arrived in Big Valley > area abt 1906. > John and Mary Jane [Dyble] Harrison b England came > to Canada > [Galt,Ontario] in 1890 with 3 children Arthur 1885, > William 1886 and Ada > 1888. > > In Ontario 4 more children were born Thomas 1890, > Helen 1892, Robert > 1895 and Eva Marian 1899 and all the family are > together in 1911 census. > I have the canadian birth certs. > > All I have found so far is that:- > Thomas enlisted in CEF in 1916 and I have copy of > his paper. > > Arthur marr 1912 to Daisy Orilla Ohlman back in > Ontario but an on-line > book 'Golden Memories' contains a memoir by an > Arthur Harrison who came > from Galt, farmed at Fenn and then moved to Stettler > in 1949. I have an old obit for Katherine MILLAR but it only gave skimpy information. The rest I filled in with an old LDS family group record from my grandmother's brother's side of the family ...........from the TRENCH family. We do have a few Mormons in the family but in the MILLAR family were Scotch and the LEA family was E.P. or Methodist style....don't have the documentation on that angle. I appreciate the information on the homestead itmes as I do not know if the actual homestead which Grandma TRENCH supposedly proved up with was in her son William Anderson MILLAR the second's or in her own. They arrived in 1911 and I have photos of the homestead and the dwelling in the wedding photo of 1913 for Fanny Lea MILLAR and her marriage to Jack" John J. HODGKINSON. I will be doing more reviewing at the AGS site! It is so frustrating for me to know much about villates in the Edson area location as there is still no census for 1921 to review. I hope to find it on film but haven't found it yet. I could then hunt for my Grandparents and my mother as a baby (she was born in Edson 1920) and for Greatgrandma TRENCH and also Will MILLER 2nd! He had some sort of store on the trail to Grand Prarie out of Edson. Regards, Linda
