Author: DaltonThompsonBerard Surnames: Thompson, Berard Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.canada.alberta.general/4381.3/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I'm a genealogy novice. Could someone tell me how to get more information about my Alberta relatives? This is what I know: Lucy Berard (possibly Bearard); b. ca. July 1892, d. 8/24/1932 in Walton County, Florida, USA; father: Rosi Berard (possibly Rosie); mother: Louise (unknown maiden name begins with "B", possibly Beusley, Bersley); Lucy married Andrew Thompson (in Edmonton, I believe); Rosi & Louise possibly from St. Bonifay, Manitoba. Lucy's death certificate from Florida states her birthplace is Beaver Lake, Canada. I have distant relatives in Lac La Biche and Tofield who took me to the gravesite of Rosie Berard, somewhere near Edmonton or Lac La Biche in 1985. I was too young to remember the location. I've since lost my parents and contact with my Canadian relatives, so I'm on my own in my research. I would like to know how I can get more information about the marriage of Lucy and Andrew, the birth of Lucy, the burial place of Rosi Berard and his wife. I don't know where to start. 3. To all:- Transcribing is coming along fine on all lists with the UNLOCKING of the WINNIPEG pages in Manitoba March 4, 2007. When unlocked, the original transcriber has the right to claim any pages if finished within a certain period. ALBERTA......................68.80% BRITISH COLUMBIA....74.09% MANITOBA..................100.01% Winnipeg is 99.99% QUEBEC........................98.87% SASKATCHEWAN........78.92% To make it easier, since Quebec is so close, check on these districts as there are about 200:- Jacques Cartier, Labelle, Levis, Maisonneuve, Montcalm plus a few more -- look for the black numbers at the left of the sub-district number. It will be interesting to see the percentages tomorrow evening, especially Manitoba. Happy transcribing, Muriel M. My grandparents homesteaded near Mundare. In the summer of 1998 we visited a Greek Catholic churchyard in the area -found other family members *with stone monuments from a later time frame. It was obvious that many of the wooden crosses from an earlier time - had not done as well. or no longer existed. The children were born in KRAKOW Alberta. The daughter born in 1898, another born in 1901 and one born in 1904. all passed away the story is that two passed away and were buried. when the family returned the third child had passed away. We contacted Vital Stats but there is no record to be found. The surname has a history of being misspelled, misfiled. I believe that there was not a church in the area at the time - just a travelling priest. In local history books - some do mention deaths from smallpox and diptheria but no time frames given. Thank you again for your help. Cheers, Stella Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. Hello all I received on another list a notice that indicated that the newspapers archived by the site "Paper of Record" are now free to search AND also free to see the actual newspaper page. I just tried it and it is indeed free - you must register with an email address and some other information but no credit card is needed and there is no fee structure that I could find on the site. It has newspapers for all over the world including the US and Canada, and dating back to the 1800's. It is also keyword searchable. Here is a link to the site http://www.paperofrecord.com/default.asp Hope this is of help to someone Sincerely Thelma
