All emigrated to Canada. We have no death dates for Thomas or Sarah - could anyone help. May married Thomas Holy Wilson, we know he died 9 Apr 1925 in Edmonton and May was still alive then, again we don't know when she died. Henry is last recorded as joining Canadian military in 1917, he did marry Ethel Shakeatt in 1909, but his attestattion papers say he was separated, we have no records of him after that, or his wife and whether there were any children. We have Lennie as dying 9 Mar 1968 in Vancouver, British Columbia. We have not been able to find her marriage, she is shown as Greaves on death record?, or the births of her children. We know she had a daughter Margaret. If anyone can help fill in the blanks please and point me to any sites that may give birth, marr! iage and death records for Canada so that I can research others, I would be grateful. Many thanks. 3. Hello Thanks for pointing that out Marilyn. It is not Hinton. Niton is correct as given in the Niton Railway Station land description. I was looking on my Cummins map which only shows a Niton. Niton junction came to be later on in 1956. Niton Railway station at Twp. 54, R. 12, W5M 1926-05-17 Niton Junction General Store at TWP 53 Range 12 W5M. 1956-04-03 This is from the Collections Canada Postmasters website. Although they are shown as different townships, they appear to be one place now with the Niton post office closing in 1969. Niton Junction is about 160km west of Edmonton. One website I use for finding places is: http://geonames.nrcan.gc.ca/search/search_e.php For farm locations I went to the Glenbow museum in Calgary and made copies of the area I needed. I obtained ones for 1918, 1927 and 2003. The maps showed detailed sections of land with the name of the land owner on each section. This made it easier to drive to the exact location. But sorry to say no results. That Chipman Register of BMD started in 1909. It did have other places in this register, also a few Krakow. I then looked for other area Registers. There was a Krakow register, it started August 1910, and also had other nearby places listed. The Wostok register starts in August 1906. The Andrew register starts in 1920. The Mundare register starts in 1908. All these Registers had a lot of other nearby places in them. I did look at names on the first pages but didn't see anything that looked or sounded like CHMELYK. After a bit of searching, the person looking after the Book Store at the Archives found me the "Alberta: Index to Registration of Births, Marriages and Deaths Registrations prior 1900". So I purchased it for myself. Like it says, its pre 1900, except almost every page has 1 or 2 marriages on it that are from 1900 to 1906. And almost all places are the big places of Edmonton, Calgary, Red Deer and Lethbridge, with a few smaller places mixed in. So thats my day away from the computer Peter Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. Hello June, I don't have one single online source that will identify your locations for you, but further below I will list a few useful sites that might help you with pieces of your puzzle. Firstly though, I would highly recommend getting a copy of this paper atlas to take travelling, because it shows Alberta highways on a grid of the surveyed ranges and townships: MapArt Publishing http://www.mapart.com/ Alberta Ranges & Township Road Atlas for 2007 About $20 Canadian. You might be able to find it at a bookstore, and it looks like you could order directly from the website. Secondly, concerning your two legal land descriptions: 1) Land Grant for Albert WAITE, NE1/4, Sec.19, Twp.56, Range 13, W5M. - This appears to be about 30 km SSW of Whitecourt, Alberta. Nearby communities are Mahaska to the NW, and Hattonford, to the SE. - Did Albert Waite ever serve as the postmaster for Mahaska? Check http://www.collectionscanada.ca/archivianet/post-offices/index-e.html A search for "Mahaska" will produce a postmaster named A. Waite between June & October 1920. There is some additional land description info on this page as well 2) Death Certificate for Elizabeth Ann WAITE buried on farm, SE1/4, Sec.16, Twp.54, Range 16, W5M. - This appears to be just a few km NW of Wolf Creek near the McLeod River, but I don't know whether it would be on the east or west side of the McLeod River, or where bridges or ferries might be found. - try the post office site for more area land description info Here are some websites that might help you out: Map Town Ltd. http://www.maptown.com/ - In the left column, look under References for the Conversions link for a way to convert your legal land descriptions to latitude and longitude. Nancy's Alberta Search Tips http://www.geocities.com/drnancytodd/strathmore/albertatips.html Geographical Names of Canada http://geonames.nrcan.gc.ca/index_e.php How are western Canadian homestead surveys laid out? http://www.rootsweb.com/~cansk/Saskatchewan/homesteadlocation.html And of course, http://maps.google.ca/ Hope that helps. -- Debra (darnison @ telusplanet.net)

The only clues thus far are a Land Grant (homestead) and a Death Certificate. Unfortunately, the legal description given on each document are different. Land Grant: To Albert WAITE, NE1/4, Sec.19, Twp.56, Range 13, W5M. Death Certificate: Elizabeth Ann WAITE, buried on farm - SE1/4, Sec.16, Twp.54, Range 16, W5M. The Land Grant was made in 1920 and the death was in 1935. Does anyone have survey maps that would make identifying these properties easy? We have no idea where they would be. Alternatively, Is there anywhere on the Net that we could look at survey maps ourselves? Would really appreciate some help with this conundrum. thank you for reading June ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to ALBERTA-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
