    1. [ALBERTA] Another URL correction
    2. Gordon A. WATTS
    3. Greetings All. Since sending my last message regarding a correction to the URL for the Canada Census Campaign I have been made aware that for some ISPs removing the "www." from the URL causes a "Page not found" response. While it works for me, it does not work for all. Please include the "www." in links and bookmarks. The proper URL should be http://www.globalgenealogy.com/Census en francais http://www.globalgenealogy.com/Census/Index_f.htm A new total for the MP Scoreboard was posted today. Changes have been made to the Scoreboard to make access to it much faster. The single large file has been broken up into five smaller files for faster access. My apology for the faulty URL in my last message. Happy Hunting. Gordon A. 3. Hi Bella, If you want the 1901 Census for Alberta - it is online at the following. The Surname search is alphabetical. Then search the place - which will give you the relationship of the persons, ages, date of birth - and where they were born ( only country not towns or villages). http://www.agsedm.edmonton.ab.ca/1901_census_202_online.html FILM #'s For the 1901 Canada Census: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/9332/census.htm Cheers, Stella At 06:03 PM 4/9/01 -0600, Bella Ingram wrote: >Posted on: General Alberta<br>Canada Queries >Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/Canada/Alberta/General/11510 > >Surname: >------------------------- > >I have the LDS no.'s to look up the 1901 census report, but what I don't >understand is how do I know which micro film do I order. 1. [ALBERTA] Please correct URL to Census Project website
    2. Gordon A. WATTS
    3. Greetings All. As a result of the recent change of servers on which the Post 1901 Census Project website is housed. The new server is UNIX based and URLs are now case-sensitive. I would ask anyone having links to us on their website to update the URL which is now http://globalgenealogy.com/Census en français http://globalgenealogy.com/Census/Index_f.htm Please note the only change to the URL is the capitalizing of the C in Census (and the removal of www which is optional). Petitions have been coming in on a regular basis but they are still needed so keep them coming. A reminder that no changes should be made to the printed petitions. Any changes made may cause government scrutineers to void petitions. Do not photocopy petitions containing signatures. In the last batch sent in there was a petition of eight signatures rejected because it was determined to be a photocopy. Black ink should be avoided because it looks too much like a photocopy. Keep your letters and emails going to your Member of Parliament, Industry Minister Brian Tobin, Heritage Minister Sheila Copps, and Chief Statistician Dr. Ivan Fellegi. It is important that they be made aware that we have no intention of going away and that we wish to see the recommendations contained in the Report of the Expert Panel implemented. If we continue our efforts we will succeed. It will just take a little more time. Do not become discouraged because of the apparent lack of action. Do not be complacent, thinking the actions of others will be sufficient without your participation -- it will not be. Stand up and be counted. Every person's voice, every letter and email, and every signature on a petition, will help to achieve our goal of regaining public access to Historic Census Records. Without those records our search for our ancestors will be more difficult than it need be. Happy Hunting. Gordon A. Supposedly a breakout of scarlet fever or Spanish enfluenza went through the mining town killing many children including my uncle Paul Proskow. He died about 1920. My grandparents came to Minnesota through Emerson, North Dakota on May 22, 1923. My aunt thought the town was Holden but I'm not sure of that. 1. [ALBERTA] Lethbridge 1909 to 1917
    2. Jim and Diane Anderson
    3. I have some questions and perhaps someone can help provide answers. In the years 1909 to 1917, there are at least two men in my husband's family who left their farms near Wiste near Consort/Loyalist, and travelled to Lethbridge or Hardieville(?) to mine or find other employment. In those days, this would have been quite a distance. I found this information on Dominion Land Grant documents. The surnames are Winer(s) and Polichek. Does anyone have lists of those who worked in the mines during these years? Would there have been other reasons besides mining why the men went to the Lethbridge area leaving their families behind on the farm? Is it probable that the men took their families when they went to Lethbridge? I know one daughter was born there while the family supposedly still resided on the farm. Was there a minimum age of young men allowed to work in the mines, as one son seemed to have disappeared during this time. I am wondering if the son could have met with an accident in a mine? I would appreciate your thoughts and any leads you might have. Thanks. Diane Anderson Victoria, BC

    1. [ALBERTA] MP Murray Calder has website supporting access to Census records
    2. Gordon A. WATTS
    3. Greetings All. MP Murray Calder now has a new website. Murray was the first MP to respond to the question posed by Global Genealogy about his position on access to Post 1901 Census records, and now is the first (and to my knowledge, only) MP to have pages on a website supporting that access. Murray's Home Page is accessible at http://www.murraycaldermp.com/ If you access the following URL you might see someone familiar to you. http://www.murraycaldermp.com/issues/census/index.htm I will have a link to Murray's website on the Post 1901 Census Project website shortly.
