Can someone tell me where on the Bow river I can find Carseland Dam on the map? I think it should be someplace south of Strathmore... Thanks, Nancy __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Auctions - buy the things you want at great prices http://auctions.yahoo.com/
Greetings All. Canada Census 2001 is rapidly approaching. Census Day is 15 May 2001. Over the past couple of years we have had some suggestions that we boycott the Census and refuse to fill out the forms as a protest regarding Statistics Canada's refusal to allow public access to Historic Census records. While in principal, I tend to sympathize with those who feel like doing this, I think that practically we could not get enough people to do it to make a difference. I believe that under the threat of fine and/or imprisonment, most people would end up filling out the forms. The Statistics Act provides for fines and/or imprisonment for refusal to complete the Census forms. I am not aware of anyone having been charged and fined and/or imprisoned for such refusal, although it is possible that it has happened. Rather than charge someone for refusal to fill out the forms, what I believe would happen is that they would first receive a telephone call to try to convince you to fill out the forms. If that failed you would likely receive a personal visit with the same goal. If that failed, I do not know if you would actually be charged, but that possibility exists. All that being said, a method by which we can voice our objection without fear of retaliation has been drawn up. A statement has been formulated which I would encourage all to sign and enclose with their completed Census forms. A downloadable form containing this statement will shortly be posted on the Post 1901 Census Project website. The files have been sent and it is simply a matter of Rick Roberts having the time to load them to the server. That should happen within a day or two. I include the wording of that statement here and encourage all to either make up their own letter or download the form from the Post 1901 Census Project website. Happy Hunting. Gordon A. WATTS gordon_watts@telus.net Co-chair, Canada Census Committee Port Coquitlam, BC Keep up to date on Post 1901 Census information at http://globalgenealogy.com/Census en français http://globalgenealogy.com/Census/Index_f.htm Permission to forward without notice is granted. 15 May 2001 Dr. Ivan Fellegi. Chief Statistician of Canada Statistics Canada Ottawa, Ontario Be advised that the Census Forms enclosed herewith have been completed under protest. They have been filled out only because the law requires me, under threat of fine and/or imprisonment for non-compliance, to do so. I take this position because I support public access to Historic Census Records, 92 years after collection, as per Regulation 6(d) of the Privacy Act of Canada. I call on Statistics Canada, Industry Minister Brian Tobin, and the Government of Canada to accept, and implement, suggestions and recommendations made by the Expert Panel on Access to Historic Census Records in their report dated June 2000. When this virus activates, it replaces the "From Address" with the name of the user who is currently logged on to the infected computer i.e. mine. This morning when we turned on our computer and checked our email, it showed a number of incoming emails with my own address as the sender. This makes it difficult to know who to notify, however I was able to figure out that I could contact these people through the list. Since I have done the below procedure, that is no longer happening. If you have detected the virus but not yet shut down your computer and re-booted: Run SYSEDIT by clicking START-RUN. In the RUN window type "SYSEDIT" then click OK. In SYSTEM CONFIGURATION EDITOR select C:\WINDOWS\WIN.INI then delete the entry "C:\WINDOWS\NETD.EXE". ----- Original Message ----- From: BLANCHARD <blanchac@cadvision.com> To: Mike & Ginger Jalonen <mike-ginger@home.com> Sent: Friday, April 20, 2001 12:37 PM Subject: Re: [ALBERTA] Badtrans.a Virus > Hi Ginger; I got an E-mail from Mary Jean saying she had problems opening an > attachment & I suggested she not open it because the name of the attachment > sounded weird & the sender may not have anything to do with genealogy. > > I didn't know that Virsus attached to E-mail, I thought it was only to > Attachments. Hi is any one on the list close, near or live in Lac La Biche,AB.? Got an email telling me there is a book written on Raphael and Catherine Tremblay. Oh i could cry. Cannot find the email amongst my 4,464 emails!! Am always going to delete them. But!! Yes that old word. My nephews always tried to have an excuse for not doing their farm chores. The main word was ( Ida). Then their dad would say " Oh Ida is back in town huh "? Should not be chit chatting to the list but am getting so desperate with my Marie Landry. Wonder if anything is said about her in this book!! Thank you. Viola.
ATTENTION: Mary Jean -re: DeForas Fern - re: Swanson Cemetery Beryl - re: Accessing Archives Editors - Rootsweb-Review Vol 4, No. 10 & Vol 6, No 10 I am terribly sorry. I seem to have infected your computer with the "Troj Badtrans.A" virus which I picked up yesterday from someone on the West-Riding-Yorkshire list. I had that same message yesterday and the virus activated itself this morning when we turned our computer on. Step 1. DO NOT turn off your computer. This Virus is executed at the next re-boot. It then replies to all unread email messages with itself attached to the email. Step 2. Go to http://housecall.antivirus.com/ and follow their instructions. I am awaiting further instructions from my anti-virus support people. If I find an easier solution I will contact you. Meanwhile - do not open any attachments from me. Apologies, Ginger
Hi: I'm new to this list and am trying to help a cousin find information for a Family Reunion in California in June. She's looking for Humbert and Barle DE FORAS, who were living in High River, MacLeod, Alberta in 1911. What she needs is a date of birth and death, and she thinks they were born in France, and had the title of Count. They both died in the 1950's in Virginia Beach, VA. Has anyone on the list done any research on these two brothers? Or can anyone suggest places for me to look, since I haven't done any Canadian research up until now? All help will be gratefully appreciated. Mary Jean Baltimore, MD

Hi Everybody, My name is Arthur CHITTENDEN and I am working on a one-name study - worldwide. Any information, no matter how brief, will be greatly appreciated. I shall be happy to assist other CHITTENDEN seekers by doing lookups and where possible putting them in contact with other researchers of our name. Best Wishes Arthur Sydney Australia.
Hi Colleen, do a search on the libraries in Alberta with one of the search engines, such as google. I know that the U of Calgary catalogue is online, so is the Calgary Public library. I did some lookups on a Taber book for someone, not the one you mentioned though. You can either try to get the book via interlibrary loan or I can do lookups for you. I want to thank "everyone" that sent me all of these wonderful resources to check out, for further assistance. I have read this book, and there were many pieces of family information published in it. Some of this information was on my great grandparents, their children and information on my grandfathers siblings on the otherside. A great many stories in this book talks about what they did within and for their communities. It's nice to have it in print. I am working on obtaining their BMD documents, from the Lethbridge Genealogical Society. The information you sent me will be checked out ASAP. I will be back soon and let you all know how my adventures go Again thankyou all, Colleen in Ontario
Good Afternoon Listers, I am new to this list. I have not seen very much activity as yet. I have a great deal of questions and a few requests but I promise to go easy on all of you at first. I would like to know if there is SKS that could tell me if the Book entitled "Taber Yesterday and Today" is still in circulation, and where I could possibly get a tangible copy. I have already viewed this book over the Internet. I believe it was published around 1950. Any assistance you can provide would be appreciated. Colleen in Ontario

To All Listers/Adherants, There seem to be two or three email viruses about the past couple of days. I just received mail from all the foregoing addresses and while I think I know from which group came the offending mail, I just received the W32 Badtrans.13312@mm virus. Fortunately, Norton caught it inbound. I also rec'd a not so nice and judgemental email sent on the BC list more or less accusing another person [not me] of sending a virus deliberately. Personally, I doubt the accusation has merit even though I can understnad the upset...especially when one of the `big boys' ' software misses the inbound virus. Yes, I had one imbedded - not attached - and had a terrible time before it was cleaned out of my system. Came from a preacher who didn't know he was spreading it via Outlook Express, a most common target. I managed to find and isolate the offending code. Trust all will forgive me for sneding this message to the genealogical forums here addressed. Most moderators do an excellent job of screening...and perhaps they'll even screen this message. I sus[pect the one I got went to the forum and to myself automatically. I wrote the sender privately. Just be warned: keep you anti-virus `dat' files current constantly and pray.
