    1. [ALBERTA] George A EVANS
    2. Sandy Stone
    3. Hi Listers, I am a new subscriber to the list and am interested in any information about George A EVANS b. Bangor, Caernarvon, WALES c1877 who, I think, emigrated to Canada sometime in the early 1900s. His parents were Thomas EVANS b. Neston, Cheshire, ENGLAND c1851 and Jane (MCCUE?) b. Bangor, Caernarvon, WALES c1854. George A had a son also George and a daughter Elsie m. Joe BARRACLOUGH. I have photographs of George A and son George, daughter Elsie and Joe taken sometime in the 1940s in New Westminster, BC; Kimberley, BC; Calgary and Vancouver. George A siblings were: (From 1891 census) Elizabeth aged 9 (b. 26th October 1881) Talybont, Llanrwst, Denbigh, WALES William aged 4 b. Llanrwst Annie aged 2 b. Llanrwst Fanny aged 9months b. Llanrwst. There is also an Annie listed on the 1881 census aged 1 b. Bangor. I don't know if an error was made on the 1891 census which should have recorded her as aged 12 or if there were two different children as the birth places are different. Elizabeth married Robert Lloyd HUGHES and in 1915 they were living in CAERAU, GLAMORGAN. Hope this rings some bells with someone out there. Regards, Sandy

I was in Red Deer about a week & 1/2 ago went to Red Deer Museum and did a bit of searching around..There was a Olav or Ole Peterson in that area, but apparently he was quite tall and the people I spoke to thought he was Swedish too.. I looked at the book"Along the Burnt Trail " and don't think he is my Olav.. Thanks Janice Abbotsford BC

    1. [ALBERTA] Counting ourselves out. - Revisited.
    2. Gordon A. WATTS
    3. Greetings All. It would appear from some of the feedback from my last posting on this subject there are some who have misunderstood the intent of that posting and the suggested letter of protest to be included with your Census forms. I hope to clarify any misunderstanding at this time. The Canada Census Committee does NOT advocate refusing to fill out and return the Census Forms. We do NOT advocate completing the forms with false or inaccurate information. To the contrary, we support filling out the forms with accurate information so that WHEN we are successful in regaining public access to Historic Census records our descendants will be able to retrieve that information about us. We DO advocate downloading and signing the Letter of Protest from the Post 1901 Census Project website, and including it with your completed Census forms. In addition, a review of the Census forms reveals that the final page of both the short form and long form contains an area for your written comments. We advise that you copy here the contents of the Letter of Protest to ensure that the message is heard and is on permanent record. Since my last posting I have been advised by Lois Sparling, a Calgary lawyer active in our campaign to regain public access to Historic Census, that her research found several reported decisions (i.e., the judges wrote decisions which were published) of people being convicted and fined for refusing to complete the census form. I hope this clears up any misunderstandings. Happy Hunting. Gordon A. WATTS gordon_watts@telus.net Co-chair, Canada Census Committee Port Coquitlam, BC Keep up to date on Post 1901 Census information at http://globalgenealogy.com/Census en français http://globalgenealogy.com/Census/Index_f.htm Permission to forward without notice is granted. 15 May 2001 Dr. Ivan Fellegi. Chief Statistician of Canada Statistics Canada Ottawa, Ontario Be advised that the Census Forms enclosed herewith have been completed under protest. They have been filled out only because the law requires me, under threat of fine and/or imprisonment for non-compliance, to do so. I take this position because I support public access to Historic Census Records, 92 years after collection, as per Regulation 6(d) of the Privacy Act of Canada. I call on Statistics Canada, Industry Minister Brian Tobin, and the Government of Canada to accept, and implement, suggestions and recommendations made by the Expert Panel on Access to Historic Census Records in their report dated June 2000. 3. Hi Janice, A while back - I sent the following information . Don't know if this is your Olav - but it might be worth checking out if you have not already done so. Cheers, Stella <snip> Hi Janice, There is an Olav Peterson listed at the following; ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------- Local History Book Entry: PETERSON, Olav ; Along The Burnt Lake Trail ; Red Deer There are many Peter Peterson's listed - in various locations. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------- Ask on the list - if anyone has this book and can do a lookup.(if you feel that this is possibly the family you are searching). There is a volunteer at the following site; Who will search Local History books published in various communities - The volunteer -may take some time to get back to you, she is either very busy - or away -although she is still at the listing site: See Alberta - first entry: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Hills/1285/hlCan.html Glenbow Museum and Library - also has Local Community History books in it's collection: If they have the book - they may do a look up - there will probably be a minimum charge - for copy fees or ? http://www.glenbow.org/contact.htm Contacting the Town of Red Deer - may help - http://www.city.red-deer.ab.ca/ Contacting Red Deer Library - they should have the Local Community History Book in the collection: http://www.rdpl.red-deer.ab.ca/ ** Do you know when Olav might have died? If it was over 20 years ago - the death registration is now public record - and is available at the Alberta Archive. You can visit - and photo copy ( or hand copy ) this information - or - there are volunteers who will search public records. This will save you the $20.00 fee that you would need to pay to Vital Stats - for the same information. http://raogk.rootsweb.com/alberta.htm http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Hills/1285/hlCan.html Hope this comes through this time.
