Hi Laura, I tried www.canada411.com, there where 25 Weinrichs in Canada. I also went to www.inforspace.com/uk/, then went to People Finder and International, found 15 Weinrichs in Alberta. There you have to do it by province. One Jeth Weinrich is here in Calgary, if you tell my if that is male or female, I can phone. Canada411 has the addresses, if you want to write. Nothing to loose, I had great success with writing a few letters. Ruth, I would like to know if there is such a site too. Since I haven't found one yet, here is what I do: 1) Coordinate converter (converts Section/Township/Range/Meridian to latitude & longitude in decimal form): http://www.maptown.com/coordinates.html. Make note of the lat & long for use in next step. 2) Natural Resources Canada/Geomatics Canada: http://geonames.nrcan.gc.ca/english/cgndb_coord.html Using the results from step 1, enter the 'degrees' of latitude and longitude. Do not directly use the decimal portion in the 'minutes' portion -- instead, to determine the minutes portion, multiply that decimal amount by 60 and round off to two digits, and use this new figure. (Remember? One degree of lat or long = 60 minutes.) Place names from the surrounding area will be displayed. You may already be familiar with this site: Finding Aid: Prairie Land Records: http://interlinkbookshop.com/dominion.htm. It might be helpful too. -- Debra Arnison Sutton darnison@telusplanet.net ---------- From: Arthur N. Thanks Judith for your information and the url - it also has helpful links. I couldn't remember which provinces the persons requesting information were from so when I came across the National Archives of Canada page I thought it could be helpful. Hi, I have spent a great amount of time on the Alberta gen site. I have a list of books that I am requesting look-ups in. Could anyone tell me how close Clearwater and Kneehill would be to each other? Thanks, Wendy rambodog@shianet.org
Hi Wendy, Go to the following website, go down to "Maps of Alberta & Alberta Counties" and click on it. Then select, under Province of Alberta, "Map depicting counties". http://users.rootsweb.com/~canab/index.html Shirley Smith -----Original Message----- From: Wendy Cosper [mailto:rambodog@shianet.org] Sent: May 9, 2001 5:22 AM To: ALBERTA-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [ALBERTA] look-up books Hi, I have spent a great amount of time on the Alberta gen site. Hi All Does anyone know what the age for schooling would have been in the 1920s. I believe my father, Rollo Charles Henry Bethell Haydon, born 1916, would have been in/near Mayerthorpe in the early 1920s before being taken to the UK by his mother. I am unable so far to find lists of ships and passengers going TO the UK at that time so am trying a different approach. Thanks Beth in Toronto
Hi all, I am currently transcribing a ship from Liverpool, England to Quebec and Montreal. I have 2 cities that I cannot find, the final destination for some passengers. Does SKS know where and how I could find Blunkett (might not be the correct spelling) and Mission Junction. I am putting the provinces behind the cities for those that are not on the manifest. Thank you in advance, Ines Ines.Mannhardt@cadvision.com
I can't find any Mission Junction. There is a Plunkett, Saskatchewan 80 kilometres southeast of Saskatoon. Posted on: General Alberta<br>Canada Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/Canada/Alberta/General/11545 Surname: ------------------------- My Grandmother was born in Calgary, Alberta Canada in 1914. Where and/or how do i get her birth record ?.
Just to let you know, I attempted to send this message to your private e mail address - it has bounced. Good Morning, You would write to the Govt of Alberta Vital Stats. to order a birth registration - the cost will be $20.00 cndn. Is your grandmother still living. If so - she can order her birth registration ( it will still cost the $20.00) - otherwise - you will probably need to send a copy of a death certificate - or obit etc. The availability of the birth registrations has tightened up recently, Perhaps your parent - can request this birth registration for you. <snip> http://globalgazette.net/gazrr/gazrr29.htm Modern records: For records from 1906 forward, information can be obtained from: Alberta Municipal Affairs, Alberta Registries Vital Statistics, 3rd floor - 10365-97 Street EDMONTON, Alberta, T5J 3W7. When searching for information on family events in Alberta, applications for genealogical searches may be made through Registry Agents. Have you checked at the Toronto Reference Library and the North York Central Library. They may have some information. Another option could be a library in Edmonton (probably the main one is) that is on line, check to see if they have anything, if there is a book that you would be interested, you could always try to interloan it and the book will be sent to your local library in Toronto. Just some ideas Good luck Natalie Beth Wearing wrote: > Hi All > > I understand there might have been a big Anglican Church gathering in > 1916 near the Edmonton area. Hi All I understand there might have been a big Anglican Church gathering in 1916 near the Edmonton area. How would I go about finding out about this? Regards Beth in Toronto
