Greetings All. FYI. The following extracts from Hansard show the latest petitions to be presented by Senator Lorna Milne in the Senate, and MP Murray Calder in the House of Commons. Happy Hunting. Gordon A. Watts gordon_watts@telus.net Co-Chair, Canada Census Committee Port Coquitlam, BC http://globalgenealogy.com/Census en francais http://globalgenealogy.com/Census/Index_f.htm Permission to forward without notice is granted. =================== Tuesday, May 8, 2001 Access to Census Information -- Presentation of Petitions Hon. Lorna Milne: Honourable senators, I have the honour today to present 1,394 signatures from Canadians in the provinces of B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Nova Scotia who are researching their ancestry, as well as signatures from 116 people from the United States and 17 from Great Britain who are researching their Canadian roots. A total of 1,527 people are petitioning the following: Your petitioners call upon Parliament to take whatever steps necessary to retroactively amend Confidentiality-Privacy clauses of Statistics Acts since 1906, to allow release to the Public after a reasonable period of time, of Post 1901 Census reports starting with the 1906 Census. So far I have now presented petitions with 9,734 signatures to the Thirty-seventh Parliament. The numbers are climbing. I have presented petitions with over 6,000 signatures to the Thirty-sixth Parliament, all calling for immediate action on this very important matter of Canadian history. ========================= Thursday, May 17, 2001 PETITIONS -- CENSUS RECORDS Mr. Murray Calder (Dufferin-Peel-Wellington-Grey, Lib.): Mr. Speaker, I rise to present another petition to the House calling for the release of historic census records to the public. The petition is signed by more than 5,500 Canadians. Combined with the signatures of the previous petitions that I have presented on this subject in this session of parliament, the total number is now over 9,000. The petition points out that an estimated 7.5 million Canadians are engaged in the pursuit of their family history and that census records are a valuable tool for such research. The records have been used in historical research, for tracing genetic diseases and in settling wills and estates. The petitioners are calling upon parliament to take whatever steps are necessary to retroactively amend confidentiality clauses of the Statistics Act since 1906 to allow the release to the public, after a reasonable period of time, the post 1901 census records.

In the orbit of my Aunt Ellen Blanche Moore(Spear) who died in Vancouver May 12 1960, it states that her daughter Mrs Hazel Ball, 4 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren lived in Calgary. Can anyone please assist with trying to trace them, address in 1960 or any knowledge of death of Hazel Ball or any other information that may help me. Thank you in anticipation for any assistance. Hello Listers! I have been searching (it has been over a year now!) for Mary Fribance who married John (Jonathan) Wilkin sometime around 1900. I understand that Mary's father may have been French Canadian. I came across the marriage of Ellen COMPTON and Edward FRIBANCE abt.1905 in the LDS site and and under this date it has: <coronation>, Alberta, Alberta. Can someone tell me what this might mean please? Apparently Jonathan Wilkin (born in British Colony of Montserrat) had spoken about the 'Rockies' to his grandson. He and Mary apparently had children in England around 1902-1906........although I have been unable to find any information of their marriage. I am beginning to think that Jonathan met Mary in Canada and that Edward may have been her brother. Thank you, in advance, for any information that one might have to help me in my everlasting search for this couple! Alannah
Posted on: General Alberta<br>Canada Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/Canada/Alberta/General/11592 Surname: Ghostkeeper ------------------------- I knew of a family in Manning Alberta, north of Peace River who used this last name. Apparently their correct name was Richardson. The story is that the father Alfonse liked telling ghost stories and believed in them. After that the family was called "Ghostkeeper". I am not sure if this pertains to the family you are asking about.

Hi Everyone: I have just joined the List and am hoping that someone may have some info that may help me. I have been researching one of my Yorkshire surnames HOOD. Different members of the families moved to Ontario and then some moved on. I am looking for info on a George HOOD who may have been born around 1870 in Ontario. His mother died when he was 1 or 2 years old. He stayed with his Aunt and Grandparents in Huron, Ontario. His father, William moved to the States and when he remarried in 1879, he came back up to Ontario and brought his sons George and Henry back to the States to live with him. We have info that George moved to High River, Alberta. From a different source, we have heard that George's father, William, owned a farm there, although the father never lived there. From some other info, we have heard that a daughter of William from his second marriage, Anna Hood TEATSWORTH also lived in High River. So we suspect it could be around the same place as her 1/2 brother George lived. >From info that Anna Hood TEATSWORTH sent to someone while she was still alive, Anna had one daughter named Viola SMITH and Viola had a son named Harold SMITH. Harold had 2 children Lenora and Kenneth SMITH. Anna Hood TEATSWORTH mentioned in her letter that she had a large scrapbook on her family info. Is there anyone else out there searching any of these individuals or better still does anyone know any of the SMITH family mentioned here. Would love to get in touch with them. All help appreciated.
