Hi there, I was just on a trip to Alberta and went to both the Granum Library and the Clarasholm Museum. At both locations they have a couple of books I found very useful, namely: Where the wheatlands meet the range" and also a book called "Leavings by Trail, Granum by rail" That is where I found all my family histories in print, as well as pictures! Another book on the area's is called "The Butte stands guard" These 3 books especially have a lot of info on all the homesteaders of the Clarasholm / Granum / Stavley area's. You may also want to look up museums of Alberta, to find the museum address and phone number. They close on Labour day... The curator there is very helpful. Also of interest, is the Clarasholm museum is putting on a large event next summer and inviting all the relatives of people who homesteaded the area to a big re-union!! Good luck, hope this info helps you.
Hello, Fellow Researchers! This is my first message to this List and would like to let you know what surname I am researching. I am researching the TWISS family which originated from Eire, via Ontario. Some of them, of which I am aware, landed in either one of the four western provinces. If anyone knows of any TWISSes in either Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, or, B.C. (where I live), or, if, you are a TWISS by birth or marriage, I would appreciate it very much, if, you would, please, send me the appropiate info. A cousin, Gerld (NZ) and his father, and I are trying to put ALL of the TWISS Branches together, and, if, any TWISS is interested, you will get a copy of the next Update. Also, I have a copy of: A TRIBUTE TO THE PAST by Quesnel & Area, 1808-1928. This is in B.C. I will do lookups for anyone who is interested. Thank you very much. Shannah
Can anyone tell me when the Edmonton Branch of AGS heads to Salt Lake or if they do? Thanks, Patricia

Does anyone know anything about Excelsior, Canada? The only ifo I have is that it is north of Edmonton. My great Grandmother's Death Certificate states thatshe was born in Excelsior. She, Louise, passed away in 1938 at the age of 45 in Miami Florida. Her past, before she met my great grandfather Jack and together they had 4 children, is a complete mystery to us. She may have lived on a Indian reservation, where Jack found her and brought her to the US? She may have left another family behind, about 4 children, in Canada and may have spoke French. My grandmother never knew her mother's maiden name, maybe something like CABRERA, CABERA, CABEIR??? We would greatly appreciate any insight into our family. Thank you, Geri Ellen.... towmeow@catskill.net

Greetings All. In recent times there has been considerable speculation about Liberal Party MPs being dictated to regarding their responses to our requests to support legislation to regain public access to Historic Census Records. Comparison of some letters of response would tend to support this speculation. I invite you to visit the MPs Scoreboard on the Post 1901 Census Project website, at the URL following my signature, and view some of these responses to decide for yourself. Compare the 15 May 2001 response of MP Andy Savoy (New Brunswick -- Tobique-Mactaquac) to the 26 June 2001 response of MP Maria Minna (Ontario -- Beaches-East York). The main portion of the two letters are word for word identical. Compare these two letters with the 15 December 2000 News Release of Industry Minister Brian Tobin (available through a link on the Post 1901 Census Project website) wherein he rejects the Report of the Expert Panel on Access to Historic Census Records, stating that "further broad based discussion with all Canadians" is required. Decide for yourself if Liberal Party MPs are being dictated to regarding how they respond to our questions. Most of the wording of this News Release is identical to that on information sheets provided MPs by Statistics Canada. It is my personal opinion that Mr. Tobin is taking his direction regarding public access to Historic Census Records from Chief Statistician, Dr. Ivan Fellegi, rather than the other way around. It is my further opinion that Mr. Tobin's News Release was likely written by Dr. Fellegi, who actively opposes public access to these records. Most people likely vote for their elected representatives because they feel they are reasonably intelligent individuals, having positions on issues similar to their own, and being capable of individual thought. It would appear that at least some MPs are incapable of individual thought and are allowing themselves to be dictated to in how they respond to our questions. How does your MP rate? Does he/she think for themselves -- or do they take direction from above?? Contact him/her and find out! Happy Hunting. Gordon A.
