    1. [ALBERTA] Post 1901 Census - Committee Hearings on Bill S-12
    2. Gordon A. Watts
    3. Greetings All. After being away from the house since early this morning I came home to an email message from the Office of Senator Lorna Milne. The purpose of the message was to advise that the Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology has tentatively scheduled hearings on Senator Milne's Bill S-12 for either 19 or 20 September 2001. Senator Milne has asked that I appear before the Committee to testify in support of Bill S-12. Bill S-12 is identical to MP Murray Calder's Bill C-312 and, if passed by the Senate and the House of Commons without significant change, would satisfy our concerns for public access to Post 1901 Census Records. It expressly authorizes the transfer of all census records from Statistics Canada to the National Archives of Canada for permanent safekeeping. It gives access to the records to genealogists and other researchers 92 years after the census, subject to a privacy right it creates that allows individuals to object to the disclosure of personal information in the census records. For those interested in reading it, there is a link to Bill S-12 provided on the 'Other Sites' page of the Post 1901 Census Project website located at the URL following my signature. Happy Hunting. Gordon A. Watts gordon_watts@telus.net Co-Chair, Canada Census Committee Port Coquitlam, BC http://globalgenealogy.com/Census en francais http://globalgenealogy.com/Census/Index_f.htm Permission to forward without notice is granted.

My father, Leonard Basil Grover, was born and raised in Sakatoon, Saskatchewan. After the war, he settled in LOndon Ontario and had two kids. Then he moved to Nipigon, Beardmore and Thunder Bay. When he was sixteen he was orphaned and sent to live with relatives. I wish I could be a little clearer with the details but I'm not overly familiar with them myself. It is the Grover family (and other relatives) in the west that I most wish to learn about at this time. I will try to get my grandfather's name for you and that may get the ball rolling. 1. [Fwd: [ALBERTA] SUGGESTION TO LISTOWNER]
    2. Darlene Homme
    3. Sorry guys! You just might all be stuck with this format as the list is, at this time, not moderated. This means that anyone can post messages to the list whether they belong to the list or not. The reason that I've left it unmoderated is because there are many very helpful people on the list who answer list messages from more than the one address that they are subscribed to the list with and I think that these people are very necessary to the list. Also it saves me a lot of computer time, not having to sub and unsub people from the list manually. Right now I am using this time to add Alberta information for genealogy researchers online, and I think this is also very necessary. I've tried removing the gateway without changing the moderation, hopefully this will work. If it doesn't I'll see if there is another option. Thanks for your patience. -- Darlene Homme Alberta GenWeb Provincial Co-ordinator http://users.rootsweb.com/~canab/index.html Alberta Digital Archives Archivist - Province and all counties http://users.rootsweb.com/~canab/digital/abarchive.html Burtonsville Historical Society http://users.rootsweb.com/~abbhs/ Kentucky Archivist for: Campbell County Archives http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ky/campbell/toc.html Cumberland County Archives http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ky/cumberland/toc.html Green County Archives http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ky/green/green.html Madison County Archives http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ky/madison/toc.html Rowan County Archives http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ky/rowan/rowan.html Wayne County Archives http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ky/wayne/wayne.html Personal Genealogy Web Site - The Homme Genealogy Page http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~alberta/ -------- Original Message -------- From: - Sun Aug 19 21:42:39 2001 X-UIDL: <1010819090626.1677@priv-edtnes01-hme0.telusplanet.net> X-Mozilla-Status: 0001 X-Mozilla-Status2: 00000000 Return-Path: <ALBERTA-L-request@rootsweb.com> Received: from lists2.rootsweb.com ([63.92.80.32]) by priv-edtnes09-hme0.telusplanet.net (InterMail vM.4.01.03.10 201-229-121-110) with ESMTP id <20010819150625.TCLM887.priv-edtnes09-hme0.telusplanet.net@lists2.rootsweb.com>; Sun, 19 Aug 2001 09:06:25 -0600 Received: (from slist@localhost) by lists2.rootsweb.com (8.10.1/8.10.1) id f7JF1N718146; Sun, 19 Aug 2001 09:01:23 -0600 Resent-Date: Sun, 19 Aug 2001 09:01:23 -0600 X-Original-Sender: champ@telusplanet.net Sun Aug 19 09:01:22 2001 Message-ID: <001001c128be$16a69e00$d412b8a1@oemcomputer> From: "Jay Champion" <champ@telusplanet.net> Old-To: <ALBERTA-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Sun, 19 Aug 2001 08:49:01 -0600 MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Priority: 3 X-MSMail-Priority: Normal X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook Express 5.50.4522.1200 X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V5.50.4522.1200 Subject: [ALBERTA] SUGGESTION TO LISTOWNER Resent-Message-ID: <TmFnjB.A.JbE.CT9f7@lists2.rootsweb.com> To: ALBERTA-L@rootsweb.com Resent-From: ALBERTA-L@rootsweb.com X-Mailing-List: <ALBERTA-L@rootsweb.com> archive/latest/769 X-Loop: ALBERTA-L@rootsweb.com Precedence: list Resent-Sender: ALBERTA-L-request@rootsweb.com Hello Listowner May I suggest that you turn off all the preamble about Message Board Post, Gateway etc and return the messages to the way they were. There was a big Pecknold family reunion in Wainwright a couple of summers ago, and someone is supposed to be cooking up a family tree. Great-grandfather Albert Abraham had two wives and fourteen children, the third of whom was my grandmother Winifred Pecknold Emmott.

    3. Hello Gail, Cowley is indeed a few kilometres west of Pincher Creek, on the number 3 highway, which goes west from Lethbridge, Alberta, through to the west coast of British Columbia. I haven't been there for many years, but it is likely still a small ranching town in the foothills. If I can help further, write back.
