The aqueduct is not considered a dam but from what I've been told there were a few people killed there. Hello. This is is very O.T. but have to talk to some one!! O.K. The Sheriffs office delivered me papers yesterday about my Piddling little two acres of lake land on Buffalo Lake in Becker County, MN. Seems a man is selling his mothers land. But some how or other my two acres got in with his. Shore line is more expensive you see !! Well he may have gotten away with it but a man at the abstract office happened to see my name. Thank God for good eyes!! Now i have told you before how poor i am and thats Gods truth. But every place i called this morning to ask a question i was told to talk to or get an attorney!!! Why do i need an attorney i have all my papers!! I have an awful mouth when i get mad. Not foul language but can if necessary. But know how to keep my temper to. Not bragging!! Just need an honest answer or twelve. Thank you. Viola.

Hello. Well im down to What if with my Marie Landry or Numbers. So #1. Northwest or HBC said the white men were not allowed to be with native women. 3 jokes and 25 laughs huh? #2. Where did all the so called half breeds come from? No pun intended as i am the result of one of those meetings. # 3. Know my Marie Landry was born in BC in ca 1800. # 4. What were the reserves in BC in 1800? Now my thoughts tho not to many left. # 1. Marie Landrys father was French. Her mother cree. Snuck under or over the fence so it did not happen on HBC ground. # 2. Many dastardly white men paid no mind to orders. # 3. One of those womanizing men was my gggggrandfather Duncan McDougall. Duncan came from a family with money and lost both his parents when he was young. So grew up a spoiled brat!! Then stayed that way thru life!! But my Duncan died a hard death and i am sorry about that!!! Am almost beyond thinking when it comes to them any more. Catherine McDougall was product of Duncan McDougall and Marie Landry. Catherine was also born at BC in 1818. Any hints, clues or answers out there? Thank you. Viola.

Hi all, can someone tell me if there is/was a dam in/near Brooks, Alberta? My grandmother's brother, Joe Lancaster, apparently drowned while working on a dam in Brooks in 1926. thanks, Laura

Good Morning Theresa. Sorry I can't be of help - but a few thoughts. 1. It appears that James Goss was born in Staffordshire England: More than likely - Joseph was born there [if born in England] I would subscribe - and post a quest to the Staffordshire mailing list; http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/intl/ENG/STAFFORDSHIRE.html I would also post to the England GenWeb site - for Staffordshire http://www.rootsweb.com/~engsts/ - no subscription needed - no mail received unless there is a response to your quest ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------ You are researching Joseph GOSS? I searched the 1901 Census for Alberta. There are no GOSS surnames listed. for that year. http://users.rootsweb.com/~canab/1891index.html ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------- I searched the Alberta GenWeb site - for LOCAL COMMUNITY HISTORY BOOKS . People were asked to submit family histories. There are a few GOSS surnames listed. Yours ? If any are related - there may be reference made to other family members - places of birth etc. GOSS, Billy; Harvest of Memories; Special Area #2 GOSS, Donald; Tales and Trails; Foothills GOSS, Harry; Memories of Pibroch; Westlock GOSS, John; Remember When; Kneehill GOSS, L.S.; Still God's Country; Stettler GOSS, Leslie; Tales and Trails; Foothills GOSS, Leslie; Where We Crossed the Creek and Settled; Wheatland GOSS, Mr; Chaps and Chinooks; Foothills GOSS, Tom; Hand Hills Heritage; Special Area #2 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------- The Family Moved to B.C. I searched the online B.C. Govt Vital Stats: Have you obtained the Death Registrations for Joseph? This will give all personal information - including - date of birth, Place of Birth ( this depends on the knowledge of the informant - may only mention England or wherever- but might be quite specific) The registrations will also mention how long Joseph had been in Canada - which gives you an idea of the year of emigrations - it will also give how long in the Province - as well how long in the municipality. 31 Name: JOSEPH GOSS Event Date: 1958 1 22 (Yr/Mo/Day) Age: 75 Gender: Male Event Place: WILLIAMS LAKE Reg. The copies - depend on the copy machine requirements only - some start at aprox. 25 cents > but well under $1.00. The Govt. of B.C. offers the same copies of registrations for $19.00 + - rather than the regular $50 that they had been charging for Public Record as well as ones not yet Public record.[ this is not to your advantage]. Karen Your assumption was right, it was the census for stafford where I got my earlier information. I have try the LDS search engine with no success, I thought maybe Alberta might have a similar search engine as British Columbia where I could check vital events to see if there was a registration of birth by that name for that year. Thanks Theresa
Theresa: Two suggestions I would make for you to follow: 1) If you can find your ancestors on the 1901 Census then one of the questions asked is the year of immigration to Canada for those born outside Canada. Also asked is date of birth and place of birth, although usually for places of birth outside Canada only the country is given. Of course this information is only as accurate as the knowledge of the individual giving the information. 2) If you can obtain a copy of the full death registration then information such as place of birth, age etc might be given here as well, again being as accurate as the knowledge of the individual giving the information. Hi Theresa, I am assuming you got the birthyears and places of birth from the 1881 British Census? Looking at it, you can see in 1881 they were in Leigh, Stafford, England. Why don't you try to find the birth record for Joseph at the LDS? They have the indexes up to the 20th century so you should be able to find him if he was born in England. If you don't already know, the data is indexed by year, by quarter and then alphabetically. Maybe start in the second quarter of 1881 in case Sarah was pregnant at the time of the census. Once you have the index reference you can order the actual certificate. Good luck. Hi All My question is if I have some one who missed the 1881 census and immigrated to Canada some time between then and 1883 how would I go about finding him if I am not sure where he was born. There was a time that i knew how to find the Dominion Land Grants at the National Archives Website... Since the < its > facelift i have hunted in vain! Can someone please point me to the current URL? Here is how to find the Western Land Grant site: Go to: http://www.archives.ca/ Under "Research" select "ArchiviaNet On-line Research Tool" Select: Research by Theme Then: Goverment of Canada and Politics Then: Western Land Grants (1870-1930) After you have typed in your name or coordinates, take the number of the coordinates and enter them here: http://www.maptown.com/coordinates.html This, however, gives you the reading in decimals, so go the the following site, which will put the numbers in minutes and seconds: http://www2.arrl.org/locate/grid.html Lastly, if you would like to find the nearest town to the land grant, go to this last site and scroll down the list to where it says "Query by point coordinates:" http://geonames.nrcan.gc.ca/english/cgndb.html Hope this helps. Hi Judy, Would the book have been called Oxen tails to Jet trails? It is a large brown vinyl ( like leather) covered book. I believe my father has a copy of that book. We are in north central Alberta and it has information for that area. If that rings a bell let me know. If anyone else thinks they may have family in this book I can try and obtain it to do some lookups as well. Hello: My father, age one, immigrated from Kansas to the Lucky Strike district in 1910 with his parents, Dwight and Dorothy Powell. They joined Dwight's parents, Jacob and Mary Powell, and his brothers John and Frank and their families homesteading land. At one time Dorothy was the postmistress of Goddard until they left the area in 1924 and returned to the US. I am looking for any reference material (books, pamphlets, Internet websites, etc.) that can tell me anything about the land, the climate, the schools and the people living there from 1900 to 1925. My father received his only education there, so what was the name of his school and what was it like? How would Dwight and Dorothy have traveled to Canada? Was there a rail system in place into Lethbridge or the Milk River settlements at that time? I have found a wonderful site, The Alberta Heritage Digitalization Project, a publication of the University of Calgary Press that has scanned copies of two books about the Milk River Country. These books have a wealth of information, but of course, I want more. Years ago I recall my father's sister Leona showing me a book that was published on the history of Alberta and it's pioneers. It was quite a beautifully done book, large, like the book for a living room coffee table. She had contributed information and photos of our family and was quite pleased when she received a copy. This would have been about 1975. She died in 1976 and the book is lost. So far, I have been unsuccessful in finding the name and author/publisher of this book, let alone a copy of the book itself. Any information, suggestions or directions would be most welcome! Thank you, Judi Powell Mutal Bellevue, WA Researching: Powell, Louderback, Sanders, Rigg, Nix, Buchanan (Kentucky and Maryland), Gambrel, Caskey, Galliher, McKee, Bolinger, Lovett, Kern, Montgomery, Cory, Wiggins, Davis, Crockett / Crocketagne and Mutal lines.
Looking for descendants of Peter Baker(Boulanger) who settled in Alberta in the early 1900's from eastern Ontario. He was born in 1877 to Pierre and Delvina Boulanger. The family was originally from Quebec. I am sorry the location in Alberta is unknown. I wish I had more information to go on. If anyone has any info at all I would be more than grateful.
