    3. This book lists people who had applied for old age or disability pensions, with documents to prove their ages, which, for various reasons were not returned to the applicant.According o the introduction in the book, the first date is the year of the event (i.e. birth, marriage, etc.) and the second date is the year the certificate was prepared. 1. [ALBERTA] Dreams CAN Come True -- With A Bit Of Work!!!
    2. Muriel M. Davidson
    3. To all:- As a family researcher, I am very familiar with census records, even Victualling Lists of different years -- these proved certain family members were still alive. Census records, beginning with 1901, have dates of birth -- which should be double-checked for the correct year. What amazed me was the following:- I went to the local LDS Centre and it was like going into a large grocery store -- census records of many years -- 1911, 1921, 1931 and others. The 1931 one was very important -- to me -- it proved I was alive! Yes, there I was listed, with parents, with date of birth October 22, 1924 -- two brothers were also listed, 1926 and 1928. This was great!!!! I was able to learn about all my former classmates in the one-room country school I attended -- yes, these did exist!! The copying of the 1931 census of the Port Mouton district did take a long time -- but worth every second!!!! DARN IT --- THEN I WOKE UP AND REALIZED IT WAS A DREAM We are still FIGHTING to obtain release of even 1911 -- it seems many have given up on us -- but believe me, Senator Lorna Milne has not!!! [Incidentally, you will not find her name on a 1931 census] This memo is a promise I made to several -- basically, "If I can do it, so can you". I am only using the skills I learned as a printer, started at age 16 at the Liverpool Advance, was switched to Cape Breton Post for censorship and intelligence (Mi'kmaq language) in 1942, married in 1945 after the war was over, moved to Brampton in 1953, met Lorna ??????? In Brampton I continued as a typesetter, proofreader, finally women's editor of the weekly paper. [I am also assisting many with spelling on their sites -- proofreaders never die!!] My next promise is to have my photo on my homepage WHEN Bill S-12 is passed in the Senate -- the Committee is using the fine-tooth comb technique so should have all the snarls out of various clauses when the Bill reaches the House of Commons. [Senator Milne will also change her photo -- as Gordon and I know her] All present-day researchers will only be able to go to 1901 UNLESS EVERY ONE OF US GETS OFF OUR RESPECTIVE BUTTS!!! Just imagine what YOUR family history would look like if YOU had to add the line "Continued in 2094" - with all history of 100 years unavailable. It was a nice dream -- but dreams CAN come true -- if YOU wish!!! Muriel M. 1. [ALBERTA] Newspapers of Canada -- Alphabetically
    2. Muriel M. Davidson
    3. To all:- Newspapers across Canada will accept well-written, not over 200 words in length, articles of a timely subject like the release of Post-1901 Census Records. Here is one great site -- http://www.onlinenewspapers.com/canada.htm Click on the name of the newspaper, and somewhere you will find either a place to contact the paper or name of editor. The e-mail address of the paper will be available. We all have newspapers -- use them!!! Many papers prefer personal delivery of letters, others e-mail. All require complete name and address, plus telephone number so the editor may check to see if the letter is a hoax. Basically, one short three or four paragraph letter will do for every newspaper in Canada -- send each one individually, and only the name of the paper and editor has to be changed. I will assist anyone PRIVATELY -- proofreading!!!!! Your letter will be returned privately -- that is a promise! One paper to concentrate on is the Ottawa Hill Times, often referred to as the Bible of Parliament Hill! Please, let us see some ACTION -- if a Canada Census Committee member, sign your name as such. If a member of a genealogical society, be proud of your affiliation -- a letter may be signed by more than one person. Muriel M. Davidson <davidson3542@home.com> Co-Chair, Canada Census Committee 25 Crestview Avenue Brampton, ON L6W 2R8 1-905-451-3542

    1. [ALBERTA] April 30, 1999 was a LONG Time Ago!!!
    2. Muriel M. Davidson
    3. To Mr. Peter Goldring, MP (Edmonton Centre-East) Dear Sir:- So far you have not found time to answer my query or my letter -- YOU are the only one with a Blue ?? which means NO REPLY. Global Genealogy wrote to you April 30, 1999 and since then you have received other letters, including some from me. Have you discussed the Post-1901 Census Release issue with your constituents -- very possibly you will be asked this weekend. I know changes will have to be made to present laws -- but did you know Alberta is one of three Canadian provinces which has never had a Canadian census? The Canadian Alliance and Progressive Conservative leaders are in favour of the general public being able to learn their history, and this does not include only genealogists. Please let me know your opinion about census release -- AFTER you have consulted YOUR constituents. Also, it is preferable to have a personal reply -- may be by e-mail. Let's get rid of the BLUE on Alberta's Scoreboard! http://www.globalgenealogy.com/Census/Score1.htm#AB Muriel M. Davidson <davidson3542@home.com> Co-Chair, Canada Census Committee

    1. [ALBERTA] Update on lookups
    2. Elaine Hildebrand
    3. Hi everyone, Just to keep you all updated.....I have now completed 66 lookups in the books I posted about earlier and have another 78 to do. I have had wonderful response and some feedback on the info I sent out. Its been great...better for some than others, but thats the way it goes I guess. I basically just wanted to let those of you know who haven't heard from me yet.....you will. I try to get in as many in a day as possible....I will however, only be able to do a few at a time over the next week. I have company coming from out of town tomorrow and have a huge candle order to complete(part of my business). So please know, they will all get done. The requests have been higher than I thought they would be, but am glad these books are being put to good use. Thanks for your time and your patience, Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend. 1. [ALBERTA] Burberry
    2. w.stott1
    3. Hullo list, I wonder if anyone could help me. I am writing from North Wales (UK) to post my interest in the BURBERRY surname. My great uncle joined the Canadian Mounties in 1914. He may have married and had children subsequently, probably in Alberta. Maybe around Lac La Biche. (Excuse me if the spelling is incorrect) He died in a bush fire in 1930. Also his brother enlisted at the same time - Frederick BURBERRY. Is anyone able to supply information about these brothers? They were both born during the 1880's. How would I find out about marriage and death certificates? It is quite possible that they both had families and I have some cousins in Canada. Thankyou Kind regards from (misty) Wales Wendy

    1. [ALBERTA] Petitions MUST Be Completed by Person Sending Them
    2. Muriel M. Davidson
    3. To all:- Many have heard the following before -- but it needs to be repeated. http://www.globalgenealogy.com/Census/Petition.htm There are THREE (3) pages to each petition. Page 1 does not need to be returned to either Gordon Watts or myself. Page 2 is very important -- MUST BE RETURNED -- it has the "prayer" (a Parliamentary term) plus places to give name of the one submitting the petition, where signatures were collected and address of submitter -- may be different. Page 3 does NOT replace Page 2. It may be included IF there are sufficient signatures. Today I received petitions for both House of Commons and Senate, stapled together, eight signatures, and only on Page 3. I do not like having to add Page 2 -- I feel it illegal. The House of Commons page will be forwarded to Gordon Watts, I will ask Senator Milne about the Senate one. Looking for Pages 2 (and 3) in the future, please. Muriel M. Davidson <davidson3542@home.com> Co-Chair, Canada Census Committee

    2. I would be very grateful to anyone that may have the Book Prairie and People-Etzikom if they could do a look up for me. 1. [ALBERTA] Why Write to Brian Tobin --
    2. Muriel M. Davidson
    3. To The Hon. David Kilgour:- PERSONAL All elected Members of Parliament who are supposed to represent the constituents who voted them to life in Ottawa, are only using Brian Tobin as an excuse for not giving a direct reply. Brian Tobin was appointed as Minister of Industry before the Nov. 27th election, and before being introduced as a new (?) Member of Parliament. To this date he has NOT replied to one person, whether it be a hard-copy letter, fax, e-mail or telephone. I know he receives extra $$$, as you do, for having the title HON. before his name. Are you adequately representing YOUR constituents -- OR must you answer by dictation? There are many in Edmonton who wish the Post-1901 Census released -- why not listen to THEM? Looking forward to an early POSITIVE REPLY -- the GOLD TICK AWARD list awaits your name -- hope to see it. Muriel M. Davidson <davidson3542@home.com> Co-Chair, Canada Census Committee

I am an American and trust me, I feel that something like the first posting that went out was harmless. Hit the delete if you do not like the e-mail or just like any other posting for an inquiry that you can not offer help on. I don't think that anyone was attacking anyone's religion or authentic group. And we in America (as well as many on this list) feel for all the other countries and diverse faiths who also lost people in this attack. I am sure that everyone is fully aware that the acts of a few are not the feelings of all of the Muslim faith. Sometimes, certain situations call for other comments other then what the list is set up for. Just two questions to those who are bothered by this or other "off topic" postings of the recent current events: 1) Where you also bothered by the postings of support and sorrow that came on the list for America and all countries suffering a loss on Sept 11th and 12th? And 2) Did you not just cause a flurry of "off topic" debates and discussions? Enough venting from a Very Proud American! God bless to all my fellow listers in Canada and around the world!
