Hi Everyone I have had queries about the 1866 directory - if only I had that one. I only have the 1966, yes Nineteen Hundred and Sixty-Six not Eighteen. Remember the 60's some of you - I do! Remember seeing in the Colston Hall and at Bournmouth The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Freddy and The Dreamers, Billy Fury, - mustn't go on I shall be showing my age. Back to genealogy. Some researchers have seen a family connection in the directory and are writing to the names and address which are still in the telephone directory today. Some help to me if you have a name like Smith etc., please give me a Christian name and the area of Bristol you think they may have lived in. Unusual Surnames are easy to type up, not so many entries. Happy Hunting one and all Kathrine

Greetings All. MP Murray Calder, our champion in the House of Commons, recently had his name drawn in the Private Members Bill Lottery. While he has more than one Private Member Bill in the works he has chosen Bill C-312 as the one to put forth. C-312 is identical to Senator Milne's Bill S-12 currently under review by the Senate Standing Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology. If passed into law these Bills would give us the access to Historical Census Records that we seek. It is expected that the Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs will likely meet on 21 November 2001. It is this Committee that will determine whether or not Bill C-312 will be deemed votable. Murray will make a presentation to argue that it should be votable. In it he will no doubt point to the enormous interest in this issue as expressed in the tens of thousands who have signed petitions. It is important to understand that the committee doesn't necessarily look at the merits of the bill -- only whether it should be votable. In other words, a committee member may be opposed to it, but still feel it should come to a vote. They will choose 5 bills from the 15 selected in the recent draw to become votable. The process is explained at this site: (be sure to include the full URL) www.parl.gc.ca/information/about/process/house/precis/chap15-e.htm If all goes well, the bill could come up in the House as early as December 11th. If deemed votable and passed at this stage, Bill C-312 would proceed to review by a Committee of the House. I copy below a list of the members of the committee and their email addresses. Perhaps they would appreciate some brief notes advising them of them of the importance of Census records to our research. Advise them that seek their positive vote in making Bill C-312 votable. Keep your messages polite and to the point. As a point of interest, checking the MP's Scoreboard for the members of this committee there are 8 gold ticks of support, 4 non-committal fences, three question marks indicating no response, and 1 red X of opposition. Greetings All. The following message is, for the most part, self-explanatory. A brief cruise through the information it directs us to would make it appear that genealogy and family history has been overlooked as part of our 'heritage'. The electronic survey may give us the opportunity to make the bureaucrats aware that we feel genealogy and family history to be a very important part of our 'heritage'. I for one intend to study the information to which this posting refers and to complete the survey. I intend to make full use of the 'Comments' section to reiterate that Heritage Minister Sheila Copps has publicly voiced her support for public access to Historic Census records. I will also make the point that we feel that Ms. Copps and her Ministry should make every effort to further efforts to achieve that goal. I encourage all to take full advantage of this opportunity. Pass this to other genealogical lists if you like. Discussion paper: http://www.pch.gc.ca/consultations2001/pubs/english.htm Welcome to the electronic consultation on heritage. As part of a "Dialogue with Canadians", the Department of Canadian Heritage is consulting with Canadians and heritage communities. This "dialogue" aims at contributing, on a long term basis, to the development of new directions for federal heritage policy in Canada. The main goal of the electronic consultation is to allow for the largest number of citizens and interested organisations to submit their comments. How to participate in the e-consultation? It is suggested that you read the document Canadians and their Heritage: Some Trends, Issues and Ideas before responding to the questions. You are also invited to submit comments on any other aspect of heritage that is of interest to you. Your contribution will enrich the ongoing dialogue. To all:- I have attended many Remembrance Day services, but the one at Sunnybrook Veteran's Wings this morning will be remembered for a long time. Veterans from both Kilgour and George Hees Buildings gathered in the Warrior's Hall and Annex, standing room only for many -- in the annex we watched the program on closed-circuit TV screens. Music by The Royal Canadian Legion Concert Band was used as a prelude and during the service. Boy Scouts and Girl Guides assisted other volunteers with wheelchairs. Rabbi Ron Weiss dedicated the memorial wreaths, after presentation of colours by Air Cadets of the 400 Tactical Helicopter Squadron. Many wreaths were presented, one on behalf of 105-year-old WWI vet and after the service these were taken by Air Cadets to the cenotaph. Chaplains David Howes, Tony Pablo and Gary Payne did the invocation, remembrance prayer and benediction. The address was by Lt. Arthur G. Plumb, resident of Sunnybrook, president of SWCHSC Veterans' and Community Residents' Council -- his speech made a deep impression on my grandson and granddaughter. Following the two minutes of silence, and during Reveille, a Spitfire circled Sunnybrook -- in remembrance. ------- This was my first service at Sunnybrook, as my husband only entered "the Sunnybrook family" March 26, 2001. Hi to all Alberta researchers! I am carrying out a One Name Study into the surname ANDERTON and would be interested in any snippets of information about Andertons in Alberta. I am particularly interested in George Anderton (of Leeds, Yorkshire), the first resident photographer in the North West Territories, who worked around Fort Walsh from 1876-1879, and is reputed to have taken the lst photo of Chief Sitting Bull before he died! On the 1901 census of Alberta I have found the following Andertons: ANDERTON Alfred 39 Stndoff ANDERTON Alice 03 Stndoff ANDERTON Edith L 35 MacLeo1 ANDERTON George 53 Stndoff ANDERTON Mary 03 Stndoff ANDERTON Wm Gordon 05 MacLeo1 ANDERTON Wm S 55 MacLeo1 But don't know if this is the George I am looking for. Also from the 1891 census, another group: ANDERTON, Alfred M 38 ON METH LumberMan ANDERTON, George M 30 England CE Rancher 3C ANDERTON, William M 43 England CE PhotographerC3 But here the photographer is William not George! If any one has anything at all on Anderton I wold love to hear from them, or better still, anyone researching Anderton in Alberta themselves! I'm looking for a Johan Edvin Hogberg. He was born July 22nd, 1890 in Dal, Nora parish, county of Västernorrland, Sweden. According to emigration papers he left from the port of Trondheim, Norway in 1911, and his destination in Canada was Camrose. Another brother called Artur Emanuel Hogberg emigrated from the port of Gothenburgh in 1923 and his destination was Edberg, Alberta. He was born December 12th, 1896 in Dal, Nora parish. According to some maps Edberg is south of Camrose. Can anyone help me with some more information about the Hogberg family? Thank you so much. Greetings Magnus Johansson Kramfors, Sweden
For genealogicaland personal interest I am trying to find my aunt who is remarried (name unknown) and living in Edmonton. Her birth name is: Marjorie M.
