Hello Viola, Just a thought - are you sure that it is your Catherine - that was still having children in 1875? At aprox age 67 years - my guess is that your Catherine would not be the one having babies in 1875. We need to remember - that there are other families - perhaps connected - perhaps not - who will carry the Landry - McDougall and other names similar to those in the family line you are researching. This could also be a daughter (unmarried) if the name is the same - who may have had the children in 1875. - Most likly - a completely unrelated Catherine. Perhaps if you start again: Sort out all of the information that you have collected - by yourself - as well as information others have helped you with . Put in a logical order. You may find the information that is eluding you. - or - in the very least - Get you started again - along a solid path - rather than skipping from one area to another. A visit to Rootsweb, Ancestry or the LDS site... or any similar site, will convince anyone that you can only use what you find as a guide. There are people that don't bother verifying what they find... and then others see what they have and take it as gospel... further confusing matters. I've found some of my family lines that were poorly recorded... and when I log onto Ancestry I find 15 to 20 people who have submitted the same mistakes. Newbies go there and see all these postings and think... "Well if all those people found the same thing then it must be right". They don't bother verifying it. I've had people ask my assistance and then chastize me for giving them misinformation because "I found on an FTM disk........ ". They don't believe that FTM is inaccurate... the Church registries are wrong. I'm not saying that all my database has been verified --- more than half has... what hasn't is not considered accurate by me... It is simply a guide... And will eventually be proven. Some people believe most of what they read... Which is REALLY dumb. A few years ago, a technical college in Massachewsetts had it's Information Technology students survey ONLY American schools and US Government sites to see how accurate was the information. The results... More than 60% of the data available at post-secondary institutions was inaccurate and filled with misinformation (more than 25% of this was outright lies). Government sites didn't fare much better... They were just under 55% inaccurate or outdated. Even this.... Don't believe EVERYTHING I say... <grin> Favourite French-Canadian Recipes: ======================== Crème brûlée québécoise 4 1/2 T. cornstarch 1/2 tsp. almond extract 3 cups milk 1/2 cup whipping cream, whipped 3/4 cup molasses Blend cornstarch and milk in top of double boiler. Greetings All. Sound the Trumpets!! Ring the Bells!! Shout it from the rooftops!! I have just received a telephone call from the Office of Senator Lorna Milne. The Senate Standing Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology has PASSED Bill S-12 - An Act to Amend the National Archives of Canada Act and Statistics Act (census records), WITHOUT AMENDMENT. The Bill will now be referred back to the Senate in Report Stage and will receive more debate. We are optimistic that following that debate Bill S-12 will pass third reading and be referred to the House of Commons. We still have a ways to go, but having the Senate Committee pass this Bill, especially without amendment, has been a major step towards achieving our goal of regaining the public access to Historic Census records that we are presently denied. While passed without amendment, the Senate Committee did have some observations to make regarding the Bill. I am not at this time aware of what those observation are, but will post them as soon as I know what they are. Having passed this stage does not mean that we can let up on our efforts to let MPs and Senators how we feel regarding this issue. I encourage you to write the Members of the Senate Committee thanking them for their accepting Bill S-12. Write other Senators to encourage them to support the Bill in debate and to vote to pass the Bill in third reading. Write the MPs as well to seek their support when the Bill is referred to the House of Commons. Continue to collect signatures on our petitions. We need to tell our representative in Parliament that it is not just a handful of genealogists and historians that seek access to these records -- it is the people of Canada who do so. This morning I am a 'happy camper'. Please forward this news to all mail lists to which you belong. Happy Hunting. Gordon A. Hi Katherine, I have an old list of unincorporated populated places in Alberta and it shows Nightingale as being northeast of Calgary. If you go to the northeast corner of Calgary, it would be about 25 miles east. Strathmore is about 10 miles south of where Nightingale would be. If this is the right place, it is not near Edmonton. If you are interested, I could scan part of a map for you tomorrow, and email it to you. I believe they lived on a farm one and one-half miles west of Nightingale - where can I view this on a map? The family names are HYNAM (Owned the blacksmiths shop), BISACRE (Frank drove the school bus), OSMOND (Walter killed by lightening in cornfield). There neighbours were KIMMETT, HARRIMAN, STOUDLEY, DOUGAN. Still hoping to purchase the book 'English Colony - Nightingale and District' published by the WI, the info gathered by Harvey Dougan on behalf of his mother in the 70's. I have written to him at an address in Strathmore but my letter has been returned to me today, unfortunately I can not read the official stamp as to why it was returned. Please keep an eye out for the book in possibly second-hand book shops. My niece is visiting Edmonton next year and would dearly love to see where her great-grandparents homesteaded.
