Dee, Thank you for sending out the message. My Barbour Co Ancestors were John G. Beasley, born 11 May 1792 in Anson Co, NC died 24 Jul 1883 in Barbour Co, AL He and his brother's William and James moved to Barbour about 1830. John was married to Martha Allums and their daughter, Nancy was my net ancestor. She was born abt 1830 in Barbour Co and died Bef. Aug 1880 in Barbour Co. Nancy married Daniel G. Beverly in Barbour Co 25 Jan 1849. Their son John C. Beverly born Nov 1851, Barbour Co died Abt. 1905 most likely in Prattville, Barbour Co AL He married Nancy Ann Lee Jan 1863 in AL died Abt. 1907 in probably Barbour Co. I have never been able to find the exact dates of John and Nancy's deaths. I do know their son Daniel G. Beverley took his sister and went to Columbus, GA after the parents died. Not long after Daniel and his sister all became ill with the measles and some of them developed pneumonia. Daniel, Lizzie, and Lou Ella died and are buried in Columbus, Obits I have found say the following: "DEATH ROBS SISTERS OF ONLY BROTHER: D. G. BEVERLY Dies on North Highlands--A Very Sad Case. // Mr. L.[sic] G. BEVERLY, aged 23 years, died at his residence, No. 2959 Fourth avenue, last night at seven o'clock after an illness of about two weeks of measles complicated by pneumonia. // Mr. BEVERLY was the support of the unfortunate family of which mention was made in these columns several weeks ago. He resided there with his six sisters, one of whom died several days ago of the same illness and the other five are also ill, two of the young ladies being critically ill. The sisters who survive Mr. BEVERLY are Misses Aggie, Lula, Mary Belle, Bertha and Leila BEVERLY of this city. // Mr. BEVERLY was a member of the Missionary Baptist church and was a young man of fine traits of character. He was very popular among his many friends and his sad death will be learned of with genuine regret. The unspeakable sadness of his death is that it was his own hands that provided for the wants of his sisters, aided by their own efforts. It was only several months ago when the mother of the children was taken away by death and the father had preceded her several years. The condition of the family aroused the sympathy of many kind and charitable people who provided them with comforts. // The funeral will take place from the North Highlands Baptist church this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, the service being conducted by Rev. L. W. MANN and interment will be in Riverdale cemetery. The pall bearers will be members of the B. Y. P. U., of which Mr. BEVERLY was a member." [Columbus (GA) Enquirer-Sun newspaper, Sunday, 12 FEB 1908, p. 6.] "MR. B. (D.) G. BEVERLY IS LAID TO REST // The funeral of Mr. B. G. BEVERLY, whose death occurred at his residence on Fourth avenue, after an illness of several weeks of measles and lagrippe, took place from the North Highlands Baptist church yesterday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, the service being conducted by Rev. L. W. MANN, and interment was in Riverdale cemetery. The following young men were the pall bearers: Messrs. S. B. HENDRIX, J. W. BRADY, D. B. GOINS, J. E. A. ARANT, H. [?] B. UPTON and L. E. TOMBLIN." [Columbus (GA) Enquirer-Sun newspaper, 13 FEB 1908, p. 3.] FUNERAL OF MISS BEVERLY YESTERDAY The funeral of Miss Luella Beverly took place yesterday afternoon at two o'clock from the North Highlands Baptist church and service was largely attended. The funeral was conducted by the Rev. L. W. Mann. Interment was at Riverside cemetery. The death of this young lady was the fourth demise to occur in the Beverly family in the course of a few months, and the sad case has awakened the deepest sympathy. Another one of the sisters is quite ill of a complication on LaGrippe and measles. The oldest daughter Agnes took her younger sisters, Mary, Bertha and Leila back to Barbour Co to stay with relatives. In the 1910 census Aggie aka Agnes was in the home of Jackson W Hurst and his wife Rachel. Bertha was with her cousin Ben Weston (Her cousin was married to Ben Weston) and Leila (my grandmother) was with her aunt Barbara Ella Norton, her father's sister. I am also looking for the parents of Nancy Lee. I think her mother's name was Jane, but have no more on her. Any one who knows this family especially John and Nancy's death info and Nancy's parents, I would love to hear from you. Anne Brown
I can not help you about the burial place of John and Nancy but can give you a proof the family was in Barbour County, close to Louisville and Clio in 1858.The oldest Presbyterian Church in Barbour county is Pea River Presbyterian Church organized in 1823 on highway 51 between Clio and Louisville. The church is in its fourth building.I attend this church. In 2014 a history book to celebrate the church history over the last 190 years. The following is a excerpt from that book I thought you might be interested in. From page 27- copies of the book are still available. If interested contact me. "The church history states the first small churchbuilding (made out of logs) burned due to a forest fire, and a second bigger buildingwas built with a balcony for the slave members. It also burned. Neither building had a heating source. A small log building was also built near thechurch, which served as the session house, also called the community house.1The first buildings were located on the west side of Alabama State Hwy 51. A thirdchurch building was built in 1858 across the highway on the site of the presentchurch. The contractor, Daniel Beverly, was commissioned by the church sessionJanuary 1858 to have the project completed by October 1858 for the price of$500.00. The third building is described in Back Tracking in Barbour County by Anne Kendrick Walker asa "simple frame structure, bare to plainness. The door was closed, but a wooden peg, slippedthrough an iron ring, was all that held it. The porch was supported by two slender columns. There was a short flight of steps."" Mary P.
