ACK! I made a mistake! I combined two generations! :( John E. DAWSON (b.1842) was the son of John Dawson (b. c1794 in So. Carolina) and KIZIAH SMITH. John Dawson (b.c1794) was the son of JOSEPH DAWSON and Elizabeth Gibson. I am still trying to figure out way my Dawson was in Tennessee in 1870, however, and not in Alabama. To: ALBARBOU <[email protected]> Message-ID: <[email protected]> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1 Hello all.. ? I'm trying to fill in the gaps in the life of my grear-great-grandfather, John E. DAWSON. John E. was born in 1842 in Alabama, the son of John DAWSON (of South Carolina) and Elizaveth GIBSON (also of South Carolina). The Census of Alabama in 1850 list a "John DAWSON" (5 yo) in Barbour County,?a son of John DAWSON, "56 yo" from "SC". ? This John (or John E.?) is found in the 1870 Census of Dickson County, Tennessee, listed as being from "Alabama", being listed as of 28 years of age, and a Blacksmith by occupation. ? Could my John (E.?) DAWSON of Barbour County have been in the Civil War? Or, could he have just been uprooted by that war? What were the sentiments of the population of Barbour County, and what regiments might they have called up? ? Two of John E. DAWSON's sons, Hernry Leonard (my great-grandfather) and Benjamin, later moved to Texas. ? Thank you for any help offered. ? The Alabama Archives is a great source for information of Alabama Civil War veterans. ****************************************** Margaret "Decisions are made by those who show up."
