I'm trying to determine the maiden name of the Sarah HALL who shows up in Williamston, Barbour County, AL in the 1880 census. She has a step-son, Jack age 10, and a son, Woodie age 3, with her and she is listed as a widow. In the 1900 census she is listed in Clayton and says that she has borne 4 children of whom 3 are still living. Woodie is with her and recently married to Aubyn HALFORD. The step-son, Jack, is missing. I have never found him after 1880. I have no idea who her husband was either since Sarah must have married him after Jack was born in 1870 but he died before the 1880 census. Sarah was boarding with Daniel HUTTO in 1910 and disappears from the census after that. From circumstantial evidence, I suspect that Sarah met her husband in FL and may have married him there about 1874. I also suspect that her three other children besides Woodie were a son named John and two daughters named Kate and Hattie all born in FL but I have no direct conclusive evidence of this. Sarah is not listed in any marriage records of Barbour County nor is there a record of her death or burial there but her son Woodie lived there all of his life and was also known as Fern N. HALL . He is buried in the Epworth Methodist Church Cemetery as F. Woody HALL with his wife Aubyn. Surely Sarah HALL is buried in or around the Clayton area as well. I have visited the Clayton Courthouse and library and searched their records with little luck. There appear to be no records in Barbour County left to check so any remaining clues will probably have to come from descendants or local historians. Any help in finding the maiden name or husband's given name for Sarah HALL is greatly appreciated. Jerry Merritt
