James Arthur Jenkins - Chaplain of Board of Inspectors of Convicts JAMES ARTHUR JENKINS of Montgomery, was born Aug 10, 1871 at Inverness, Bullock county, Ala., is the son of James Elmore and Annie Jane (Cogdell) Jenkins and the grandson of Jonas and Mary Jenkins and of Charlie and Mary Cogdell all of Inverness, Ala. James Elmore Jenkins was a Confederate soldier and is now a member of the House of Representatives from Bullock county. James A. Jenkins obtained his primary education in the county schools of Bullock county. He attended Howard College at East Lake, Ala. and the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary at Louisville, Ky. He is a Baptist minister and has been pastor of churches in Indiana, Kentucky, and Alabama, his last pastorate being at Wetumpka, from which church he resigned to become Chaplain of Convicts. He is a Democrat; a Mason; an Old Fellow and a Knight of Pythias. He married on Nov 12,, 1902 in Montgomery, Amanda Ruth, the daughter of James Alexander and Jennie Stewart of Montgomery, Ala. She is the granddaughter of Patrick and Martha Stewart and of John and Lucy (Hancock) Hilliard.
