The 1st was made-up of a large number of men from SE Ala; the rgt was captured at Island # 10, Tenn and the enlisted men were in incarcerated at Camp Randall, Wisc; the following companies of the rgt were from Central and SE Ala: Barbour County, co's A, B, and I. Pike County, co's G and I. Montgomery County, Co K. Captured in Apr 1862, w/ many sick from exposure, a larger number would die at Camp Randall within a few weeks after arrival; the commisioned officers were held at Johnson's Island, in Lake Erie, near Sandusky, Oh.
