Source: Alabama Official and Statistical Register, 1911, page 113 Legislative Department, Geneva County WILLIAM OSCAR MULKEY, of Geneva, Ala. was born Jan 27, 1871 at Brundidge, Pike county, Ala. is the son of William Greene and Elvira Tildah (Shanks) Mulkey, the former of Macon, Jones county, Ga, the latter of Clayton, Barbour county, Ala. and the grandson of Felix and Hettie Mulkey, formerly of Macon, Ga. later of Troy, Ala. and of William T. and Mary Shanks of Clayton, Barbour county, Ala. William T. Shanks was a Baptist preacher and represented Barbour county in the Legislature before the War of Secession;; his father was a Revolutionary soldier under General Warren. Wm. O. Mulkey was educated in the common schools of Pike county, and in the State Normal College at Troy, Ala. taking degree of A.B. 1892. He is a lawyer and was a member of the Constitutional Convention of 1901. Was a Republican and an elector on McKinley ticket in 1896, now Democrat; a member of M.E. Church South, a Mason; and a K. of P. He married Nov 7, 1896 at Geneva, Ala. Annie Robert Burgherd, the daughter of martin and Rachael Burgherd of Quincy, Fla. Martin Burgherd was a German coming to America before the war. He was a mechanic and served in that capacity during the war.
