Source: Alabama Official and Statistical Register, 1911, page 113 Legislative Department, Hale County William Henry Knight, of Greensboro, Ala. was born Feb. 5, 1868 at Greensboro, Hale county, Ala.; is the son of William Newton and Eva (Happel) Knight, the former of Russell county, Ala., the latter of Greensboro, Ala.; and is the grandson of Ephriam and Mary (Medley) Knight of Greensboro, and of Phillip and Mary (Gibson) Happel of Greensboro. The grandfather, Phillip Happel, came from France to S.C. and was a soldier in the Seminole and Mexican Wars. Ephriam Knight came from England. Wm. N. Knight was Captain of Co. C, 36th Ala. Regt. He represented his county in the Legislature four times, and was a member of the Constitutional Convention. W. H. Knight secured his education in the common schools, in the Southern University of Greensboro, and in the University of Ala. He is a planter; a Democrat; a member of M. E. Church, South, and a W. of W. He was married April 17, 1901 at Greensboro, Ala. to Sarah Inge Smaw, the daughter of William and Sarah (Herndon) Smaw of Greensboro, Ala.
