Each booklet was the original typed pages put together in a 3-ring folder. Stamped inside the cover was a library name from Austin, TX. The person selling them said they were purchased at a 'yard sale' at the library. I understand libraries have limited space and must dispose of old books to make room for new ones.. It is unfortunate but some people, even librarian's, might not realise the value of a limited edition local book. In some libraries WPA records were just taking up space that could be used for the latest book on the NY Times best seller list.. I gave the two books I got to a genealogy libraries in the county they came from. Hopefully, they are still there, taking up space. Grant Johnston, Chico, CA
Yes, you are so right. I have fussed with our local library director for withdrawing history books that no longer have the circulation of modern fiction or whatever. But many of those histories are one of a kinds that can never be replaced. Her argument is that they are a public library and not a research library. I insist every library is a research library to some extent. The bibliographies of those older histories are often more valuable than the contents. I ask if she would withdraw a genealogy book (knowing she was a genealogist, Ha) and she replied "Heavens No!" But they still just don't get it. In this case I'm not sure the survey was ever done in Barbour County Al....and would like to know if there is any hope. Thanks for your interest. -bob ----- Original Message ----- From: "Grant Johnston" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, November 09, 2007 8:35 PM Subject: Re: [Rootsweb ALBARBOU] ALBARBOU Digest, Vol 2, Issue 48 > On Nov 2, 2007 11:00 PM, <[email protected]> wrote: >> >> 1.
