    3. John, The Wm Gilmore from Pike was k. at Moccasin Point, on the north end of Lookout Mt Oct 31, 1863; he was a Pvt in Co L of the 15th Ala; he would have been 28-30 years of age at d.; on the list of destitute families, his family, from Bug Hall Beat was paid $123.00 for Feb and Mar 1862; from the size of the payment, would have had a large family or they were owed back pay; personally, I doubt this is your soldier plus I find no record of him at Natl Archives. Have you considered Gilmer? there was a Pvt William M. Gilmer, Co H, 39th Ala Inf Rgt; Co H was from Barbour and he shows on a muster roll at Opelka dtd May 15, 1862 as being age 28; some of this company had previously served w. the 1st and 7th Ala Inf; he does have a record at Natl. Hope I have not muddied the water, sort of grasping at straws. Deo Vindice, Homer
