Peggy, I have the record that states Capt Roberts commanded Co C of the 4th Bn Cav and even prior to that, he was 1st Lt, Co K, 15th Ala Inf Rgt; he resigned for health reasons in Va in Dec 1861 and later formed his cav co; I would suspect that his health kept him from being in NC at the surrender; as I had stated earlier, he was probably with the Eufaula Minute Men at the time of the surrender for that reason; yes Capt McKenzie's command was paroled at Greensboro May 1, 1865.
