What a hoot! It is a small world isn't it? Of course I remember you! Yes, this is the same John B. A lady sent me a book a few months back she had written about John's family (her husband descends from a brother) and while it had mostly errors concerning John it did have the marriage record and his living in FL with his sister. I find him listed in the Ancestry index as I. Adlington but it is definitely a J on the census it's self. Over the last few days I have started working on my book for John and got interested in the marriage. Just wondering who Sallie was and if they had children. I find John in Salt Lake City in the 1890 Union Soldier's census and thought his being there might have something to do with Sallie. Also wanted to know if Sallie was buried with her first husband there in AL. Just realized you may not know about John's life but the story is way too long to write here. His first wife was my gg grandfather's sister which is why I am interested in him. John is probably the main reason the Burnsides of Lawrence Co. PA and the Burnsides of Butler Co., PA don't know anything about one another. Didn't I send you an invitation to my tree online? Some of John's story is there. Anything you could find on him such as deeds or a copy of the actual marriage license would be great appreciated. Thank you so much for the offer! Someone sent me the census for 1880 of William Blair but you probably already have that. I think I have figured out the S.A.M. Blair stood for Mrs. Sydney A. Blair. Was sent info she was Sallie Kilpatrick before her marriage to Sydney. I can not find them in either the 1870 or 1880 census before Sydney's death in 1884. Sallie married John B. Adlington in 1885 after her 1st husband's death. I am trying to determine if she had any children before she married John. John B. Adlington was married to my gg grandfather's sister and had quite an eventful life in PA. I find him on the Union Soldier's Census living in Salt Lake City in 1890 and just trying to determine why he was there. He was living in Marianna, FL in the 1885 state census - with his sister and her family. I am on quite a few mailing lists but this is my first venture into AL records. This list has been very helpful and I do appreciate it very much. Thank you for your message, Linda "You are never too old to set another goal or to dream another dream" C. S. Linda, Fancy running across you here (ALBARBOU)! We've discussed the Gallagher's of Logan Co., KY in case you need a reminder. I haven't finalized my plans as yet but I will probably be at least passing through Eufaula (Barbour Co.) one day next week. The courthouse there may have the record if it exist and I will take a look for you. Is your John B. Adlington the same as the one who died in Pennsylvania in 1896? There are images of filled requests for markers for CW veterans on Ancestry and he is listed as dying in the Soldier's Home in Erie. I have a lot of family roots in Barbour County. Do you know if this Blair was white or black? If she was white, she likely is the granddaughter of William Blair (m-Elizabeth Bishop). I have the children of William Blair, but I don't have all the grandchildren. On another subject, do you have anywhere in your records where a Mary Jane Blair married a Holley in the 1880's in AL. Mary Jane was the 3rd wife of John Blair Sr. Their marriage ended in divorce. Your name sounds familiar and I apologize if I have asked this question of you before. If you get any more clues on your S. - A. M. Blair, let me know and I'll try to help. Hi - The LDS library in Salt Lake has Barbour Co. marriages on microfilm and in alphabetical order. Computers may have changed things, but in very recent years a local Mormon Church that has a small library could order the film for you at a nominal fee. You do have to look at it on their equipment because you can't check it out. Might check with a Church near you and see what the latest proceedures are. -bob ----- Original Message ----- From: "Linda Holley" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]>; <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, May 06, 2009 5:58 PM Subject: Re: [Rootsweb ALBARBOU] Marriage Records > Thank you for your suggestion - unfortunately, I live in AR and can > not make the trip to AL to check on this one record. Thank you for your suggestion - unfortunately, I live in AR and can not make the trip to AL to check on this one record. If I had other records to check it would be worth a trip but John never lived in AL very long - if ever. He was staying with a sister in Marianna, FL in their 1885 state census - he probably met Sallie while he was there.
