    3. Richard, I have placed a number of them after contacting the family to find where they would like them placed; the answer was always in one of the family plots; I have placed a couple in cemeteries in the area of where I felt a soldier would have lived; I think as long as you have it marked "In Memory of", no one will give you any trouble; I do remember one case where a friend, now passed on, placed six markers for HIS Ancestors in a cemetery down in Geneva County where another ancestor had been the church founder; he contacted the care-taker, then placed them and dog- gone near had to fist fight members of the congregation; kinda touchy, but w/ proper coordination, should be no problem; one thing about it, if you place one of the 270 pound uprights in concrete, no one is going to move it. Deo Vindice, Homer

    1. [ALBARBOU] Land Patent
    2. Earl Moore
    3. The land Patent is in twnshp 8-N, range 26-E, section 2 & 3. Anyone have any ideas? From the looks of the map I found last night, the area is from Blue Springs on the West, Edwin on the East and Texasville on the North. I'm afraid I am unable to tell what the southern boundary is. One patent is for section 2, while the other is for section 3. The patent for section 2 is for 40 acres, while the one for section 3 is for 280 acres. Thank you for any help. Ronna Midland, TX

    1. [ALBARBOU] CSA Markers
    2. Homer, Do you have any suggestions relative to where one can erect a VA "memorial" grave marker for CSA veterans who never returned and cannot be traced to a burial site? Have you done this before? With the cost of burial plots today, it is hard to justify buying a plot to erect a "memorial" marker. Any suggestions? Family cemeteries would be an obvious choice if available but that isn't always practical. Richard SOS 6-3

    1. [ALBARBOU] CSA grave marker
    2. I just wanted to report a fairly painless experience with the ordering and receipt of a Confederate Veterans grave marker from the VA for my GG Grand Turner Howell. I downloaded the form from the web, filled it out and sent if off snail mail and between 3-4 months it showed up marked exactly as requested. The only minor snag was that it took longer than the 60 days they estimated. I will be erecting it at Rocky Mt. Methodist Church Cemetery this weekend if I can stand the heat. Maybe the VA is becoming a little more cooperative or maybe they were just having a good day, but whatever the case, I got lucky. Richard Price SOS 6-3

    3. List, I mistakenly listed Eden Missionary Baptist Church in Coffee County. Please let me correct that and state the Eden is in Pledger in Geneva County. There are 173 pages of records for Eden Missionary Baptist Church. Margie, there is a note in the Eden record on Aug. 19, 1908 that states; Ed Spears was ordained as a deacon by Presbutery of Bros. Sims, Jon Hinson, Glover and Brooks. Judson Brooks, Mod. W.A. Pledger, CC. There are no Hodge in the index. There is J.A. Hogue, John W.A. Hogue, L.M. Hogue, Willie C. Hogue. 3. Maggie, I don't remember the cost since I have had my copy for several years. May someone in the 334 area code could call and ask Mrs. Helms and post the price on the website. 3. I just found a very neat site if someone is looking for land patent information - in particular where the land is located. Go to: http://www.archives.state.al.us/counties.html Then click on the County Name. Once the next page is fully loaded, click on the county map (in the upper right corner). It is a basic map with range & township marked on the borders. Gives you a general idea of where any land may be. I had requested assistance with this information on a different patent. Does anyone out there know where section 3 of township 8N and range 26E is? Thank you in advance. Ronna Midland, TX
